The Township of Springwater, located in the heart of Simcoe County, is a mixed urban/rural municipality with growing urban settlements and a prosperous agricultural sector. The municipality is currently for the temporary position of Facility Attendant.

Reporting to the Supervisor of Facilities, the Facility Attendant is responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance of the Townships various facilities. Specifically, this position performs various cleaning and basic maintenance duties, special event set up and take down and provides customer service to facility patrons. Overall, this position plays an integral role in maintaining Township facilities to provide a safe, clean, and enjoyable environment for staff, residents, and visitors of the Township of Springwater.

Position Responsibilities

The usual responsibilities of the position are:

  • Maintains general maintenance at Township facilities as required, including custodial duties, troubleshoot facility issues and take necessary corrective action. Reports any damage on the appropriate forms.
  • Opening the facility and ensuring that all set up requirements are complete prior to the arrival of the public, user group or permit holder.
  • Coordinating room-set up and take down requirements for various staff and public meetings, training activities, and special events. Configure the room seating layout for events; move chairs and tables, audio visual equipment, check and empty garbage as required, liaise with patrons/user group during bookings to ensure room set-up and requirements are met.
  • Occasionally performs building and floor maintenance duties including, general cleaning of walls, fixtures, windows, equipment, and some outdoor areas.
  • Facility set up for schedule events and/or meetings, which involves arranging tables, chairs, audio-visual equipment, decorations and/or food and beverage.
  • Cleans up after meetings and/or special events, which involves removing waste, wiping, and sanitizing tables and chairs, cleaning floors, rearranging furniture and/or removing extra furniture or equipment.
  • Responds to and/or redirects inquiries, questions, complaints and concerns from customers, residents, public and employees.
  • Acts as a point of contact for and assists on-site user groups and permit holders in accordance with facility specific requirements.
  • Performs basic security functions, at applicable facilities, such as unlocking/opening buildings, and performing lock up procedures including ensuring building is empty, turning lights off, and securing doors to the facility, when required.
  • Review facility bookings provided by Recreation and Facility Coordinator and/or Supervisor, Facilities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or as required in accordance with departmental, divisional and/or corporate objectives.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of one (1) to five (5) years related experience. Must be resourceful and technically orientated.
  • Minimum of a secondary school diploma (grade 12) or recognized equivalent.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability in the safe operation of related janitorial equipment (i.e. broom, mop, floor scrubber, vacuum, ladder, hand tools, cleaning products, personal protective wear, shovel, etc.).
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools associated with general carpentry, facility cleaning, plumbing, painting and park related maintenance tools / equipment.
  • General knowledge of facility maintenance and operations, the Occupational Health & Safety Act, the Occupiers Liability Act, and other applicable building and safety-related legislation, regulations and guidelines, standards and best practices.
  • An understanding of facility inspection software with the use of tablets.
  • Ability to interact effectively and courteously with all levels of staff and contacts in a Customer Service focused environment; build cooperative, collaborative working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to effectively use time management and record-keeping skills are required.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers including email, internet and Microsoft Excel and programs for data entry is an asset.
  • Ability to work a variable schedule including weekdays, early mornings, afternoons, late evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
  • A Valid Class G driver’s license in good standing with a satisfactory driving record.
  • A valid First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
  • Successful candidates must abide by Ontario Health & Safety Legislation, Township Health and Safety Policies, and Public Health Guidelines.
  • As a condition of employment, all applicants must be willing to submit a Criminal Record Search that is acceptable and in good standing to the Township of Springwater.

Rate of Pay

Compensation for this position is $28.40 per hour (2025 rate) as per the Collective Agreement.

Hours of Work

This temporary contract position will work 40 hours per week. This position will be required to work shifts, including afternoons, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
