About the role

Job Description The Build Support Planner reports directly to the Shop Manager, Build Support Program, provides expertise in piping/ steel fabrication production, and manages production sequence within their area while monitoring manufacturing schedule adherence and productivity. This role is responsible for monitoring on time material availability, releasing of production shop orders, and tracking physical and transactional production progress to enable smooth flow of production activities.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 825 Admirals Road, Victoria. What You'll Do

  • Reviews work package data, material availability, and work centre workloads to release production shop orders as required by schedule.
  • Works with Production and Area Management to sequence and prioritize manufacturing.
  • Reviews and collects all information required by production to commence work prior to production start.
  • Reviews and maintains data in the Material Requirements Planning (MRP) system with actual progress achieved.
  • Tracks physical and transactional production progress. Prepares reports on progress for management using internal system.
  • Liaises with various stakeholders within production and participates in production team meetings providing feedback and information.
  • Works with a Liaison Engineer to track issues raised by Technical and Production.
  • Produces work queue reports and dispatch lists to warehousing and production work centres with expected start and finish dates for planned operations.
  • Investigates causes of issues and delays in production and expedites activities to mitigate them.
  • Ensures that shop orders are completed in a timely manner and no outstanding transactions remain after completion of each work package.
  • Initiates change planning requests and coordinates changes with Technical, Planning, and Production.
  • Acts as the link between production function within their area of responsibility and support functions.
  • Monitors Work In Progress and on time material availability to ensure they remain within the company limits.
  • Initiates change planning requests and coordinates with Production, Liaison Engineer and Planning.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring

  • Diploma or Technical certification in Trades or Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree is desirable.
  • 4-6 years of experience in planning, ship design, shipbuilding or related trade experience.
  • Experience in utilizing MRP software tools for material and inventory planning (IFS is preferred).
  • Certificate in Material requirements planning (MRP) is preferred.
  • Understanding of manufacturing operations and relationship between planning, procurement, design and production.
  • Understanding of Material Requirements Planning principles.
  • Knowledge of MRP system data analyzing, processing, administration and report extraction.
  • Ability to apply inventory and material management advanced practices.
  • Knowledge of earned value management systems (EVMS) and ability to apply the principles in monitoring, reporting and controlling stages.
  • Knowledge of supply chain management principles including procurement, logistics and inventory management.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing engineering principles, product structures and bills of material.
  • Technical skills with ability to read and interpret blueprint.
  • Knowledge of document control systems and databases.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and planning systems (Primavera and MS Project preferred).
  • Knowledge of JD Edwards system and SAP BI.
  • Ability to work well independently with limited direction and in a team environment.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills to explain rules and procedures clearly.
  • Time management skills and ability to work on several issues simultaneously.
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills to improve production processes.
  • Attention to details while keeping big-picture goals in mind.

The estimated salary for this position is $112,500 - $137,500. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
