Employment Type: Full Time – Permanent

Salary Range: SP3, Level 5, $92,320 - $115,400 per year. The final compensation for this position will be determined based on individual factors, including education, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

Health & Safety Advisor - Hybrid The Opportunity­­ Are you a safety professional who thrives on collaboration and has a solid foundation in Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S)? If you're looking for a role where your expertise can truly make an impact, we invite you to join the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) as a Health & Safety Advisor. In this role, you’ll report to the Manager and act as a trusted advisor, delivering technical guidance and support on a wide range of H&S programs and policies.

You’ll play a hands-on role in shaping a strong safety culture by working closely with internal teams, field staff, and safety committees to integrate best practices into everyday operations. What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Provide leadership, training, and technical expertise to implement AER’s Health & Safety programs, including evaluating orientations, PPE, and work procedures across office and field settings.
  • Provide interpretation of OH&S and WCB legislation, assesses impacts to AER operations, and supports the development of corporate H&S standards.
  • Oversee H&S Committee and representative duties, ensuring inspections are completed and corrective actions are followed up as needed.
  • Recommends risk reduction strategies to ensure compliance with H&S regulations, supports WHMIS/SDS management, investigates incidents, and tracks trends through regular reporting.
  • Manages the incident reporting and investigation process within the H&S management system, including QA reviews, investigation oversight, action plan input, and serving as lead investigator for high-severity incidents.

What we’re looking for in you:

  • Degree in Health, Safety, and Environment or other related education.
  • 5-7 years of experience in Health and Safety in the oil and gas industry.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional Designation (CRSP) or Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST), and Certified Safety Auditor are assets.
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and First Aid are required.
  • Advanced knowledge of incident investigation and follow-up.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with proficiency in risk communication.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a strong team player.
