Description Reporting to the Regional Fleet Manager, The Fleet Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day maintenance activities of a fleet of over 300 vehicles, managing a team of 8–12 skilled technicians. The Fleet Operations Manager provides both strategic and hands-on support to the Regional Fleet Manager in the scheduling of vehicle maintenance, parts acquisition, warranty coverage and vendor management in multiple garages.
The Fleet Operations Manager will be instrumental in maintaining high standards of safety, compliance, performance, minimizing vehicle downtime, while also driving continuous improvement to the fleet management team.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily maintenance activities across multiple garages, ensuring timely and effective vehicle repairs and preventive maintenance.
- Lead and support team of Fleet technicians, including performance management, workload distribution, and on-site engagement through regular garage visits.
- Oversee the procurement and management of spare parts and supplies, ensuring adequate inventory levels to minimize downtime.
- Complete warranty related claims (using 3 C’s method) and ensuring capture of credits, dollars and rebates from vendors.
- Ongoing selection, coordination, evaluation of 3rd party vendors that support vehicle maintenance & repair.
- Manage the garage budget, including labor, parts, and supplies, to ensure cost-effective operations.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, vehicle repairs, and compliance with regulations.
- Point of contact for District Manager’s, Unit Manager’s, drivers and other stakeholders to address vehicle-related concerns, provide updates, and ensure communication between departments.
- Analyze maintenance costs, vehicle performance, and other metrics to identify trends and improve operational efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Travel regularly to garage locations to engage with team and perform site assessments (expected to visit each garage once per month).
Qualifications & Requirements
- College diploma or equivalent education and training
- 3- 5 Years experience working in fleet, garage, automotive, or branch operations.
- Proven experience in vendor management, customer service and warranty processes
- Experience leading a service or maintenance team, including hiring, training, and performance management
- 3+ years of direct working experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
- Demonstrated understanding of continuous improvement methods, including 5S.
- Proficient in general computer tasks, including MS Office Software
- Strong attention to detail and ability to balance operational and administrative priorities
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to interpret documents such (i.e. safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manual) and produce routine reports
