The Manager of Policy and Heritage Planning, under the direction of the Director of Community and Development Services, will primarily be responsible for contributing to the strategic vision of the Town through innovative, progressive leadership and management of the Town’s planning services. The position focuses on policy planning, heritage planning and urban design, and will provide professional planning advice and direction to the Town on the update and development of policies and procedures to align with legislative and regulatory requirements, as well as support Council’s strategic initiatives and community development.
The Successful Candidate Will Have
- University degree in Urban Planning, Environmental Studies or Geography or equivalent.
- Minimum of seven (7) years of experience working in the field, including professional memberships or designations. MCIP, RPP, or equivalent designations are required.
- Municipal planning experience would be considered an asset.
- Five (5) years of experience in a supervisory role with progressive responsibility.
- Strong understanding of the Planning Act and municipal planning processes.
- Strong background in policy planning, including policy development, secondary planning, and master plans.
- Knowledge of municipal development planning processes is considered an asset.
- Experience leading public engagement sessions.
- Understanding of urban design.
- Knowledge of the Ontario Heritage Act and heritage planning practices.
- Strong organizational and time management skills and able to prioritize, anticipate and meet deadlines and work towards achieving key deliverables.
- Ability to set long-term work plans and budgetary goals.
- Strong presentation, facilitation, written and verbal skills.
- Strong report writing skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas.
- Strong project management skills and experience supervising a team.
- Proven analytical ability and solutions oriented.
- Strong customer service skills.
