Program Description:

The Social Development (SD) Program provides services to children between the ages of 6-13 (Grades 1-7) who, are designated as requiring Intensive Behavioral Intervention or having Serious Mental Illness (in accordance with the Ministry of Education criteria). A social development teacher and a child or youth care worker support each program, and District Behaviour Specialists serve as consultants to the SD program staff. Students are included in regular classes and have access to additional support in an alternate setting when required. The program is designed as a two-year intervention with a return to their catchment school being the long-term goal.

The Social Development Program Teacher will:

  • Teach students in need of intensive behavioural support in an elementary class with limited enrolment
  • Work collaboratively with child care workers and behaviour specialists;
  • Help children develop more socially acceptable behaviour;
  • Design and implement individual education programs, as well as devise program evaluative strategies.

Many students in this program exhibit overtly aggressive and hostile behaviours expressed directly toward the teacher.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid B. C. Teaching Certificate;
  • Minimum of two years satisfactory teaching experience;
  • Course work or experience in working with students in need of intensive behavioural support who require individual educational programs and in collaborating with child care workers to develop corrective programs for children experiencing behaviour difficulties.

Salary range is $ 59,711 to $109,520, with placement on the range based on length of service, FTE and qualifications in accordance with the Collective Agreement. . In the event the 2025 Salary Grid is made available the current grid will be updated.
