Position Summary:
The Finance Manager plays a key leadership role in ensuring the financial health and sustainability of the organization. Reporting to the Director of Finance, Risk & Operations, the Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, compliance, and audit preparation. This position ensures that the organization meets its financial obligations and reporting requirements in accordance with funder guidelines, particularly those set out by Ontario Health. In addition, the Finance Manager oversees the payroll department, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant processing of employee compensation in line with internal policies and relevant legislation.

Working collaboratively with senior leadership and program managers, the Finance Manager provides strategic financial guidance and supports decision-making that aligns with the organization’s mission and values. The role also ensures strong internal controls, financial risk management, and adherence to relevant legislation, accounting standards, and non-profit best practices. The ideal candidate brings a strong understanding of public sector funding models and accountability frameworks, with experience in managing government-funded budgets and ensuring compliance with Ontario Health financial and reporting requirements.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Post-secondary degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
  • CPA designation is considered a strong asset
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in financial management, preferably in the non-profit or public sector
  • Solid understanding of government funding models and reporting requirements, particularly with Ontario Health
  • Experience overseeing payroll and understanding of payroll legislation and best practices
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards applicable to not-for-profits
  • Proficient with accounting and payroll software; experience with CCIM and UKG is an asset
  • Advanced Excel and data analysis skills; comfortable preparing financial models and projections
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing for and supporting external audits
  • Familiarity with financial reporting for multi-funded programs and restricted funding
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with a collaborative, solutions-focused approach
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders
  • Experience with budgeting and financial planning in a unionized environment
  • Ability to adapt to changing funding landscapes and organizational priorities with resilience and flexibility
  • High level of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite including Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, Visio, and SharePoint
  • Demonstrated knowledge of local and regional health care systems
  • Required to provide a satisfactory criminal reference check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector prior to hire.
