About the role

Be the Spark that empowers educators and enriches learning — at the YMCA of Oakville.

As the Specialist, Curriculum Implementation & Training, you will provide ongoing leadership to effectively deliver the YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum at our Early Years child care locations and implement the YMCA A Place to Connect curriculum at our before- and after-school programs. Additionally, you will assist in the development and facilitation of the annual training plan and support educators in building their continuous professional learning portfolios, as required by the College of Early Childhood Educators and the Ministry of Education.

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 42.5 hours per week with rotational shifts between 7:00 am to 6:00 pm (15-18 month maternity leave contract, starting in August 2025)

Location: YMCA Child Care Centres, Oakville, ON

Responsibilities:
Curriculum Implementation

  • Coordinates the orientation and annual training plan for the YMCA Playing to Learn and YMCA A Place to Connect national curriculums.
  • Delivers core and supplementary curriculum training sessions on a regular basis.
  • Conducts curriculum assessments and develops action plans to address identified gaps.
  • Provides in-centre coaching and support to child care educators regularly, with the goal of achieving the Association average.
  • Supports on-site supervisors and directors in setting goals and objectives based on assessment outcomes.
  • Facilitates regular meetings with on-site supervisors, team leaders, and curriculum champions.
  • Prepares and shares resources to help educators maintain high-quality programs.

Relationship Building & Communication

  • Builds positive, supportive, and collaborative working relationships with child care educators and centre support staff.
  • Provides ongoing feedback, coaching, and mentoring to support educator development.
  • Consistently role-models behaviours that reflect YMCA core values and curriculum principles.
  • Develops and implements strategies to share best practices and celebrate excellence across the child care department.

Requirements:

  • College Diploma or University Degree in a related field (ie. Early Childhood Education, Ontario Certified Teacher, Adult Learning)
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working with children and families
  • Strong knowledge of the YMCA Playing to Learn and the YMCA “Place to Connect” curriculums
  • Excellent knowledge of child development (0-12 years), and understanding of the Ministry of Education’s “How Does Learning Happen?”
  • Excellent knowledge of relevant acts, legislations, and frameworks, including but not limited to: Child and Family Services Act, Child Care and Early Years Act and YMCA Healthy Child Development
  • Excellent knowledge of Ministry of Education requirements
  • Strong facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated coaching, mentoring and collaboration skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to influence without authority (inspire excellence without formal “authority”)
  • Effective organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated passion, enthusiasm and commitment to the YMCA’s mission, vision and core values
  • Must have a valid Ontario’s driver’s license
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificate
  • Provide a Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Check (dated within the past 6 months)
