About the role
This is a Temporary Full-time position up to approximately eight (8) months.
Sinai Health is looking for an experienced Biomedical Engineering Technologist to support us in ensuring the delivery of a comprehensive program of regular equipment inspections, training, as well as regular and emergency on-call maintenance of Hospital medical devices and equipment.
In this role you will:
- Test, calibrate, troubleshoot, repair and upgrade medical equipment and systems (e.g., Ventilators, Anesthesia Gas Machines, Patient monitoring equipment, infant incubators) to ensure it is operating safely, effectively and efficiently
- Carry out preventative maintenance routines, inspections and evaluations using a variety of test equipment and tools such as safety analyzers, conductivity meters, oscilloscopes, multi-meters and defibrillator testers to ensure medical equipment is in proper working order
- Support of networked medical devices and associated network system infrastructure
- Perform incoming inspection of new equipment, such as receiving, documenting, assembling, installing, conducting performance and safety testing, obtaining necessary legal approvals, coordinating the connection of the systems to the hospital network, and other specific activities dictated by the equipment or system(s) to prepare it for clinical use
- Determine tool, instrumentation and spare part requirements for equipment maintenance and assist clinical areas in ordering accessories and supplies by identifying suitable sources
- Maintain work documentation and equipment inventory information
- Participate in the selection and evaluation of medical equipment
- Provide training and consultation to promote the proper use and care of equipment
- Perform risk management activities (e.g., incident investigations, managing safety alerts/recalls, proactively identifying safety-relates issues)
- Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as required

Diploma in Biomedical Engineering Technology or a Diploma in Electronics Technology from an accredited educational institution
Preferred

Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) through OACETT

Certified Biomedical Engineering Technologist (CBET) through ICC

3 years of experience in medical equipment support

1 year of experience with ventilators and anesthesia machines

1 year of experience with medical networks

Applicants with proven equivalent and related training and experience may also be considered
Skills or Knowledge

Basic knowledge of physiological measurement techniques
