Responsibilities

• Lead and collaborate with writers throughout the article drafting process;
• Edit articles across a variety of genres including: Travel & Adventure, Science & Technology, Health & Wellness, Sports & Fitness, Nature & Environment, and Creative Writing;
• Develop good working relationships with writers and other team members;
• Evaluate and approve topics submitted by writers prior to the writing of their first draft, assisting writers during the brainstorming process as needed;
• Respect the voice of the writer and empower the writer to continue to produce excellent writing;
• Proofread and edit articles submitted by writers by:

1. Carefully reviewing the content of each article;
2. Collaborating with the writers, offering comments or suggestions to help them improve their articles prior to publication;
3. Detecting and correcting all spelling, punctuation, grammatical, typographical and syntax errors;
4. Identifying and removing any inappropriate content;
5. Ensuring that articles adhere to all tenets of English writing;
6. Identifying and correcting any inconsistencies in the articles;
7. Identifying ways to improve the prose and suggesting revisions, such as changing words and rearranging sentences and paragraphs, in order to improve clarity or accuracy;
8. Guiding the structure of the articles by suggesting changes to the organization of the content to improve readability;
9. Establishing smooth content flow by ensuring that each section in the article links to the section before and after it;
10. Modifying, revising or rewriting those article sections that require rework in order to improve readability and style when necessary;
11. Reviewing and approving article titles submitted by the writer, assisting the writer and suggesting titles as needed;
12. Researching and authenticating facts, dates, and statistics cited in the article using standard reference sources;
13. Confirming all sources and references cited in the article;
14. Conferring with writers regarding any changes in content, style, structure or organization.
