ABOUT SFU RECREATION
Simon Fraser University (SFU) Recreation offers a wide range of programs and services designed to promote physical activity, wellness, and community engagement for students, staff, faculty, and the public.
POSITION SUMMARY:
SFU Recreation is seeking a high-energy, motivational, and knowledgeable Spin Instructor to lead dynamic indoor cycling classes that challenge and inspire participants of all fitness levels. Instructors are expected to build safe, effective, and engaging workouts, help clients improve their cardiovascular endurance, strength, and overall wellness.
- Design and deliver high-quality indoor cycling classes that cater to a range of fitness levels.
- Create playlists that motivate and energize participants throughout the ride.
- Ensure participant safety by demonstrating correct bike setup and providing modifications as needed.
- Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and encouraging environment.
- Monitor and assess participant progress, providing constructive feedback and adjustments as needed.
- Arrive early to set up equipment and greet participants; stay after to answer questions.
- Maintain current certifications and stay up-to-date with industry trends and safety standards.
- Report any maintenance issues with equipment or safety concerns to the appropriate staff.
- Promote other fitness programs or events offered at SFU Recreation, as appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current Group Fitness Certification (e.g., CanFitPro, NASM, ACE, AFAA, or equivalent).
- Preference will be given for Spin/Indoor Cycling Certification (e.g., Schwinn, Spinning®, Stages, or similar).
- Current CPR-C and First Aid certification.
- Minimum 6 months of experience leading group fitness or cycling classes preferred.
- Strong communication, motivation, and interpersonal skills.
- Punctual, professional, and reliable.
