About the Role

We are seeking a skilled engineering student for a Co-op MEP Construction role to assist and support the construction management of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems across our projects. In this role, you will assist the MEP team in ensuring that all operations meet project specifications, industry standards, and safety codes, contributing to the successful delivery of our high-quality projects.

This co-op position is in-person and located in the charming town of St. Thomas ON. This is an 8-month co-op

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in coordination of all on-site mechanical and electrical activities, ensuring compliance with project design, regulatory standards, and safety protocols.

  • Support the MEP construction team in conducting detailed reviews of construction drawings, documentations and BIM models to identify potential conflicts between architectural/structural elements and mechanical/electrical systems.

  • Review and coordinate relevant drawings and documentation to aid in streamlining workflows, eliminating schedule delays, and ensuring smooth execution of mechanical and electrical work.

  • Work closely with internal team members to assist on coordinating project schedules, aiding in RFIs (Requests for Information), and reviews of shop drawings.

  • Assist the supervision of the on-site progress of mechanical and electrical installations to ensure adherence to project timelines and quality standards.

  • Gain valuable experience in monitoring and controlling material and labor costs related to mechanical and electrical components, by supporting the management teams in ensuring accurate and timely quality reporting.

  • Coordinating with the internal MEP team to identify and mitigate project risks, Assist the team in implementing corrective actions as necessary to avoid delays or cost overruns.

  • Coordinate with and support the MEP team during the testing of mechanical and electrical systems.

  • Support the construction team in project closeout activities, including final inspections, documentation, and handover processes to the internal stakeholders

  • Assist in the preparation of project reports, including progress updates, inspection records, and compliance documentation.

  • Perform any additional tasks as required to support project completion.

What you bring to the Team

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or another construction-related field.

  • Strong academic performance and a demonstrated interest in project delivery, construction management, or design.

  • Familiarity with construction drawings and specifications through coursework or previous co-op/internship experience.

  • Exposure to project work in environments such as Clean and Dry Rooms, Automotive, or Pharmaceutical sectors is an asset but not required.

  • Enthusiastic about learning how to manage project scope, coordinate with contractors, support quality assurance, and assist in project closeout activities.

  • Basic understanding of construction methods and materials, with a willingness to learn more about regulatory requirements and safety standards.

  • Comfortable working in team environments and participating in project meetings and site visits.

  • Interest or basic experience with tools like CAD software, Building Information Modelling (BIM), or other project management platforms is a plus.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with engineers, architects, and team members.

  • Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of balancing multiple tasks under the guidance of senior staff.

  • A collaborative attitude and a desire to contribute to real-world construction projects in a meaningful way.

  • Demonstrates initiative, curiosity, and a passion for building things and solving problems.

  • Able to safely participate in construction site activities and committed to learning and following all health and safety protocols.
