About the role

About PhotoSat

PhotoSat produces the world’s most accurate satellite surveying. Our technology supports clients in mining, oil & gas, and engineering industries by delivering reliable topographic data derived from satellite imagery. Our team is passionate about precision, innovation, and supporting real-world decisions through geospatial excellence.

Role Overview

As a Geomatics Technician, you will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy, reliability and useability of ground control data received from clients. This ground control data is used to register PhotoSat’s topographic survey product, made from satellite photos.

You will collaborate closely with project managers and analysts to prepare, process, evaluate, and document geospatial control data, ensuring it meets technical and project-specific requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process and Document Ground Control Data: Evaluate and format ground control files provided by clients for satellite topography projects. Maintain internal documentation for projects.
  • Prepare documents for collection of new control: Suggest suitable ground control targets when clients have insufficient data and intend to collect more.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with analysts, project managers, and occasionally clients to explain the technical requirements, accuracy thresholds, and quality implications of control data.
  • Support Production Workflows: Contribute to project completion by assisting with full projects or individual phases as needed.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Technical diploma or bachelor's degree in a science-related field; equivalent industry experience considered
  • Solid understanding of coordinate systems, map projections, datums, and transformation methods
  • Experience working with geospatial formats (Shapefiles, Geodatabases, KML/KMZ, CAD drawings), and conversions between formats.
  • Proficiency with QGIS and ArcGIS (especially ArcMap) for map creation and editing
  • Familiarity with remote sensing principles
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Meticulous attention to detail and high organizational standards

Who You Are

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and eager to learn new tools and processes
  • Professional, adaptable, and resourceful under pressure
  • Strong communicator able to translate complex geospatial concepts into clear guidance for different audiences
