Position Summary
CMHA of Northern BC is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Finance Manager to join our leadership team. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the financial integrity and sustainability of a growing multi-million-dollar organization delivering vital services across Northern BC.
In this role, you will work directly with the Executive Director as a strategic partner, contributing to organizational decision-making and financial strategy. CMHA of Northern BC is governed by a robust and diverse volunteer Board of Directors, and the Finance Committee requires monthly and ad-hoc financial reports to support governance, oversight, and accountability.
The successful candidate will bring a balance of financial expertise and a deep understanding of community impact. You will have excellent interpersonal skills, be highly organized, and take initiative with confidence. You’ll bring a strong commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally safe practices, along with deep respect for the individuals we serve—many of whom are navigating mental illness, substance use, homelessness or housing precarity, food insecurity, and poverty.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Oversight
· Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and analysis.
· Deliver and present monthly and ad-hoc financial reports to the Executive Director, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors.
· Prepare funder reports and ensure compliance with all reporting obligations (government and non-government).
· Reconcile general ledger accounts and monitor financial transactions.
Budgeting & Forecasting
· Lead annual budget development with program managers and senior leadership.
· Conduct financial forecasting and variance analysis.
· Support multi-year financial planning and scenario modeling.
Audit & Compliance
· Coordinate the annual external audit and support program-specific audits.
· Maintain accurate financial records for grants, contributions, and funder agreements.
· Ensure compliance with internal policies, GAAP, CRA regulations, and funder requirements.
Internal Controls & Systems
· Strengthen internal financial controls, systems, and processes.
· Assist with financial system upgrades and data clean-up.
· Provide analysis and recommendations to increase operational efficiencies.
Leadership & Collaboration
· Serve as a key financial advisor to the Executive Director.
· Partner with leadership to align financial strategy with organizational priorities.
· Build financial literacy across departments by supporting program managers with budgeting and reporting.
· Contribute to strategic planning and risk management efforts.
Qualifications
Education & Certification
· CPA designation is an asset.
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required.
Experience
· Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
· Experience in nonprofit or public sector finance preferred.
· Familiarity with fund accounting, restricted contributions, and multi-source funding models.
· Experience with Sage 50 and advanced Excel skills.
