About the role

Position: Thrift Store Cashier and Merchandiser

Hours: Thursday to Saturday 9:45-4:45 (Maybe other days available.)

Wage: $18.00/hour

Position Description:

In addition to being responsible for operating the till, this position includes serving customers at the jewelry counter and assisting them with purchases in the boutique area. At this time, extended medical health benefits are not included for this position. The second part is working as a member of the Merchandising team. Placing items in the store and helping customers.

Duties:

  • opening the till ensuring the float is accurate
  • closing the till at end of day, completing day's sales sheets
  • using a POS system, credit card and debit machine
  • working with the sales team to ensure accurate and consistent pricing
  • troubleshooting the system, as needed
  • directing clients looking for specific services to the appropriate locations
  • working with the team on loss prevention
  • tagging items to be put out for sale in specialty areas
  • clean & tidy as needed
  • Placing buggies of stock and/or hanging clothes in the store.
  • Merchandising inventory, stocking items and creating in-store displays of items as needed.
  • Assisting customers, informing them of sales.
  • Working indoors and outside, covering other departments as needed.
  • Working with other teams to best promote the various store ideals.
  • Cleaning as required to maintain a sanitary workplace.
  • Educating the public as to how their donations serve their community.

Skills Required:

Cashier

  • ability to count cash accurately
  • strong people skills and able to work with difficult people
  • ability to diffuse conflict situations with customers
  • ability to work with minimal supervision
  • excellent oral communication
  • must consent to criminal record check
  • some thrift store experience and knowledge of thrift store prices is an asset
  • completed secondary school

Merchandiser

  • Work safely in a very busy environment, where space can be limited.
  • Exercising good judgment, discriminating between saleable and unsaleable items.
  • Work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Friendly, outgoing personality.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs or more (occasionally).
  • Some knowledge of thrift stores would be useful.
  • Retail experience would also be an asset.

Job Type: Permanent

Pay: $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 12 – 24 per week
