Meaningful work you’ll be a part of

As a Qualified Reserve Engineer, you’ll work as part of a team of problem solvers, helping to solve business issues, deliver high quality client service and operational efficiency. In this important new role, you will serve as a subject matter expert, providing technical insight and performing certain audit procedures to help engagement teams assess the reasonableness of oil and gas reserves and resources estimates prepared by company-employed/engaged qualified reserve engineers (QREs) that impact financial reporting, leveraging your own QP-level expertise.   • Liaise directly with audit clients and their engaged QREs to understand the client’s process for preparing reserve estimates, including the methodology and models used;
  • Interface with external regulators to articulate and support the audit approach to reserves.Assist engagement teams in assessing the design and operating effectiveness of controls related to reserve and resource estimates.
  • Assist engagement teams in determining whether the methodology, models used in the reserve and resource evaluations are appropriate and consistent with industry standards including NI 51-101, COGEH and SEC Rules.
  • Assist engagement teams in reviewing financial and non-financial data as well as key non-financial assumptions relevant to the determination of reserve volumes and cash flows and assessing whether the data and assumptions have been appropriately incorporated into the reserve and resource estimates. This may involve analyzing geological and reservoir data - such as seismic, well logs, core reports, and geophysical data - conveyed by the client to the QRE.
  • Prepare appropriate documentation outlining procedures performed and conclusions reached for inclusion in the audit engagement team’s documentation related to reserve and resource estimates.
  • Work closely with the firm’s audit methodology team to build out an effective auditor’s expert function for reserves and resources, including:
    • Determining the nature, timing and extent of procedures to be performed by the auditor experts and identifying the appropriate size and composition of the auditor expert function based on this scoping;
    • Provide training and guidance to audit teams on evaluating methods and assumptions used by specialists.
    • Develop guidance documents and checklists to assist audit teams in performing audit procedures over oil and gas reserve and resource estimates.

Experiences and skills you’ll use to solve

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive related experience in reserve engineering or related oil and gas field of study, with a focus on oil and gas reserves.
  • Bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering, chemical engineering, or a related field.
