Position Overview

At the Prescott-Russell Regional Mental Health and Addiction Centre, the Addiction Counselor works collaboratively with clients who have addiction, gambling and possibly concurrent disorders.

The Addiction Counselor performs assessments and completes treatment plans, is responsible for case management and care coordination, provides counselling and therapy, monitors clients’ progress, and works collaboratively with family/caregivers and agencies involved.

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor in Social Work, Psychology, or related mental health and/or addictions field.
  • Member of a regulatory body in Ontario.
  • Certificate in Addiction Counseling will be an asset.
  • Minimum of two (2) recent years of’ experience in mental health and addictions.
  • Adheres to the approach of harm reduction and trained in motivational interviewing.
  • Good interpersonal skills, empathetic, able to easily develop therapeutic relationships, capable of managing difficult clients and obtain the confidence of clients.
  • Experience in addiction counselling and treatment.
  • Good knowledge of mental illness and concurrent disorders.
  • Good knowledge of various treatment modalities specific to addiction treatment such as: CBT, DBT, MI.
  • Possess a working knowledge of both official languages.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license, use of vehicle and insurance.
