Hours: Teaching is normally scheduled between 8:00 am and 10:00 pm, Monday to Friday. In accordance with the Collective Agreement, workload may be up to 44 hours per week.

Rate of Pay: $73,079 - $126,689 per year
Start Rate: Upon hire, Human Resources will conduct a rate calculation based on completed education and work experience to determine the step within the range as per the Collective Agreement.

What you’ll be doing:
Under the direction of the Associate Dean, professors in the Department of Community, Wellness & Public Safety, School of Interdisciplinary Programs and Community Services department, provide academic leadership and develop effective and inclusive learning environments. Responsibilities include, but not limited to, the following:
- Delivering theory and practical-based courses.
- Creating a positive and innovative student-centred virtual/remote and/or in-person learning environment.
- Using a variety of teaching strategies most appropriate for the curriculum.
- Using a variety of techniques to evaluate achievement of learning outcomes.
- Managing the educational environment to facilitate an optimal learning experience and student success.
- Enhancing educational delivery and experiences through the use of technology.
- Applying college values and philosophy in work activities and interaction with others.
- Developing, evaluating, revising and delivering academic curriculum collaboratively with other professors in accordance with LSO competencies and updates.
- Using Mohawk’s learning platform Canvas to deliver course content, communicate with students, and provide assignment feedback to promote student success
- Collaborating with Student Rights and Responsibilities to address adverse student behavior.
- Supporting students with accommodations as prescribed by Accessible Learning Services department.
In addition, the incumbent will be expected to:
- Demonstrate the ability to teach relevant legislation, regulations, policy and procedures with the ability to research, prepare, and present to specific paralegal related issues.
- Provide leadership and an ethical, professional focus to a paralegal career, within the paralegal scope of practice, and administer in-program meaningful assignments and evaluations.
- Provide an engaging, effective, and inclusive remote/in-person learning environment for a variety of learning styles and learning methodologies to prepare graduates for careers in paralegal.
- Liaise with others to maintain and control specialized lab facilities & equipment.
- Undertake special projects, assignments, or tasks as deemed appropriate at the request of the program Associate Dean to promote student and program goals and related initiatives within the Mohawk College community.
- Teach with a learner-centered approach to assist in the development and application of alternative delivery methods. He/She/They may be assigned to teach classes at any Mohawk Campus.
- Programs run on a year-round basis and teaching during Spring and Summer months is required. Faculty may be scheduled to teach between the hours of 8:00am to 10:00pm.
What you’ll bring to the role:
- Licensed paralegal or lawyer with LSO, in good standing (include license number in application).
- Paralegal program graduate, at minimum, degree preferred or equivalent.
- Minimum 5-years recent, related experience working as a paralegal/lawyer in Provincial Offences Court, Small Claims Court board and/or tribunal matters.
- Minimum of at least one year of teaching experience or have formal training in education that has resulted in a degree, diploma or certificate being awarded by an institution accredited, authorized or designated by a governmental authority to offer such degree, diploma or certificate.
- Experience preparing for, and appearing in, court, boards and tribunals.
- Professional Certifications such as Alternative Dispute Resolution.
- Experience with agencies and legal firms, paralegal services, court and tribunal work for professional and community networking, and mandated placement work.
- Related paralegal software competency and professional software experience required.
- Exemplary communication, leadership, and interpersonal team building skills.
- Ability to relate theoretical knowledge and practical applications through innovative delivery methods to provide a meaningful learning environment for students of diverse backgrounds and ages.
- Learner-centred approach and to assist in the development and application of alternate delivery methods.
- Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
- The ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse students, employees, and communities.
The successful candidate must have the ability to relate theoretical knowledge and practical applications through innovative delivery methods in-person and remotely to provide a meaningful learning environment for students of diverse backgrounds and ages. The ability to work as a part of a team and demonstration of excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
