Position Summary
**This position receives 4% in lieu of vacation + 13% in lieu of all benefits in addition to hourly rate of pay**
THE HOURS FOR THIS POSITION PROVIDES UP TO 24 HOURS PER WEEK WITH OPPORTUNITIES TO PICK UP ADDITIONAL SHIFTS
Operate sidewalk plows to clear and sand sidewalks, walkways and pathways
Required to hand shovel (ex. Stairs, walkways, building entrances)
Perform labour related tasks, such as flower bed preparation (i.e. roto-tilling, shoveling, edging), watering flower beds, vegetation removal/ disposal, as well as similar labour and material handling tasks
Required to trim brush
Operate light vehicle plow (1 ton) to clear turning lanes, parking lots, laneways and dead ends
Responsible to clear catch basins
Responsible to patch and repair pot holes
Participate in seasonal parks maintenance
Haul snow and/or sand with 5 or 8 ton trucks as required
Build and take down outdoor skating rinks, assist with making ice and flooding as required
Responsible for garbage collection, litter picking and illegal dumping clean-up
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Competencies
High School (Grade 12) diploma or equivalent
One (1) year of experience driving and/or operating heavy construction equipment, and/or working as a labourer on and around heavy equipment on construction sites
Must have knowledge and training in Traffic Control and Occupational Health and Safety Act
Must possess a valid DZ Ontario drivers licence with a satisfactory driver’s abstract
Qualified candidates will be contacted and required to pass the associated written and driving tests in order to move onto the interview. As a condition of employment, all new hires will be required to complete the pre-trip inspection training and pass the pre-trip inspection testing within 30 working days of starting position
Must demonstrate corporate values of Belonging, Collaboration, Accountability, and Innovation
Skills, Abilities, Work Demands
Able to work independently as well as part of a team
Able to perform the essential duties of the job, including major strength and mobility demands of the position in a safe and efficient manner
Able to work outside in inclement weather conditions
Must be willing to work any and/or all shifts, as may be required
Proof of immunity to Tetanus and Hepatitis B may be required
Must be available to work a variety of shifts including days, evenings and weekends
Must obtain and maintain a satisfactory criminal record check
