About This Position About the Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship

The Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship’s mission is to support the development of the high-impact talent that is essential to the continued economic prosperity of Alberta. About The Role Reporting to the Associate Director of the Institute, this position is responsible for creating, executing and reporting on the Institute’s extracurricular student activities, coaching and mentoring student entrepreneurs, marketing the Institute’s opportunities and successes to both students and the broader community, working directly with donors and sponsors, and confidently and positively representing the Institute at community events and collaborations.

Responsibilities Program Manager The Entrepreneur Development Officer will provide extracurricular opportunities for entrepreneurial and innovative students and build a sense of community for students and alumni.

  • Conceive and manage the execution of extracurricular activities and events of the Institute
  • Manage the execution of high-profile activities and events such as the JMH LaunchPad Pitch Competition (300 attendees)
  • Supervise casual staff in the delivery of programs targeting student groups across campus.
  • Manage marquee Institute programs such as LaunchPad Pitch Competition, LaunchPad Lab, Founders Fund, Innovation Sprint, HealthTech Challenge, connectFirst Social Entrepreneurs, Coaching, and the Slate Innovation Lab.
  • Research best practices at other post-secondary institutions to inform extracurricular student opportunities.

Student Mentor and Coach The Entrepreneur Development Officer will provide a personalized learning experience for student entrepreneurs.

  • Be an expert in the processes, skills, and mindset that our students are expected to develop through our curricular and extracurricular programs
  • Meet one-on-one with students and coach them in the idea and validation stage of their new business venture ideas ensuring a meaningful educational experience
  • Support faculty as a speaker and coach in Entrepreneurship classes
  • Connect students to resources and individuals in the broader community that can aid in the student’s learning experience and career opportunities.

Marketing Make students aware of the opportunities available to them through the Institute and build a sense of community among the students.

  • Build a social media following to open a line of communication directly to students
  • Design and update the Institute website with engaging content
  • Conceive, implement and track engaging campaigns through video, blogs, and traditional media
  • Support faculty with the promotion of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Minor and Concentration by designing and delivering creative marketing programs targeting students with an interest in Entrepreneurship
  • Promote Innovation and Entrepreneurship as a cross-campus initiative by connecting with student club leaders, faculty and advisors.

MRU Representative in Community Build awareness of the Institute and MRU in the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Calgary

  • Represent the Institute at entrepreneurship-related initiatives in the city, during and after business hours
  • Collaborate with government or corporate initiatives to host or champion opportunities for post-secondary students across the province

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree, ideally with a focus on Innovation and Entrepreneurship
  • 3+ years of relevant experience that might include marketing, mentorship, and entrepreneurship
  • Ability to work independently, show initiative, and identify and seize opportunities (i.e. be entrepreneurial)

Salary: $60,571.00 - $76,640.00 per annum
