Description Located at our Heartland Petrochemical Complex, the Manager, Controls & Automation will lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for process controls, plant automation, and OT cybersecurity across the facility. Reporting to Director, Technical Services of the Heartland Business Unit, this role is critical to ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations through strategic leadership in technology integration, system lifecycle management, and digital risk mitigation. The Controls & Automation team supports day-to-day operations, long-term capital planning, and continuous improvement initiatives, playing a key role in optimizing plant performance and maintaining regulatory compliance in a highly automated production environment.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Continue to develop and lead Process Controls, Automation, and OT Cybersecurity teams
  • Develop and communicate strategic team goals that align with business objectives
  • Provide leadership to ensure the secure integration/utilization of advanced technologies to optimize plant efficiency
  • Incident response leader for control systems and OT cybersecurity
  • Develop and execute strategic plans to manage critical systems from failure/obsolescence
  • Manage department multi-year plans, annual OPEX/CAPEX budgets and TA plans
  • Collaborate with operations and maintenance to ensure efficient and safe plant operation
  • Manage employee performance and ensure effective employee development plans including annual goals & objectives, role and responsibilities, training and career development plans are in place for team members.
  • Coordinate resourcing (employees, consultants, service providers) to deliver on business objectives
  • APEGA Responsible Member for permit to practice for process control, automation and OT documents as required.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Engineering degree OR Diploma in a relevant field (Instrumentation, Electrical or Automation) with a minimum of 10 years related Automation/Process Controls/OT experience in an operating facility in the Oil & Gas or Petchem industry
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in leading a department or departments with proven leadership competencies
  • P.Eng or P.L.Eng is required
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years’ hands on experience with DCS, PLC and APC hardware/software platforms
  • Knowledge of OT networks, Cybersecurity best practices and incident response is preferable
  • Sound communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
