About the role

Position Information:

The Ward Clerk, under the direction and supervision of the Director of Patient Care/Manager or delegate is responsible for organizing the nursing station and performing clerical and receptionist duties, and requisition supplies, equipment and services from other departments.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Meets with the Director of Patient Care/Manager concerning daily assignments and work related needs. Completes staffing duties as assigned(short and Long term needs as per collective agreements under direction of charge nurse or Director of Patient Care/Manager
  2. Acts as receptionist for the nursing station, answering inquiries of a general
  3. nature by patients, visitors, other departments, nursing staff and physicians, assisting them in a friendly, cooperative manner.
  4. Coordinates and provides routine services, supplies and equipment to the nursing unit
  5. Performs clerical duties related to procedures such as admission, discharge, transfer, death.
  6. Assists with or maintains hospital and unit records (i.e. time sheets, census, calls in staff to cover sick calls or for extra staffing as needed, call-in sheets).

Qualifications:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent is required

  • Medical Terminology mandatory..

  • Excellent verbal communication skills with physicians, clients, visitors with high regard for public relations.

  • Proven written skills.

  • Computer skills mandatory.

  • Experience in effective staffing.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Knowledge and ability to apply CQI concepts.

  • Reliable and punctual

  • Satisfactory vulnerable person’s sector criminal background check.

  • Internal candidates must have satisfactory attendance and performance appraisal in current position.

  • Documented commitment to continuing education through inservice, staff meetings and self-motivated learning.

  • Commitment to Patient Care & Safety and Service Excellence.
