Summary:

The Housing Youth is responsible for assisting the KO Public Works in administration of the On-Reserve housing and infrastructure department. The Housing Youth will assist Keewaytinook Okimakanak develop an electronic filing system for new and existing documents where information is stored for future use by Public Works.

Job Details:

This position reports to Keewaytinook Okimakanak Housing Manager and/or as designated by Public Works Manager.

The Housing Youth is responsible for assisting the Keewaytinook Okimakanak Public Works in the administration of the On-Reserve housing and infrastructure department. The Housing Youth will assist KO develop an electronic housing filing system for new and existing documents. The Housing Youth is responsible to ensure electronic documents are uploaded and put in storage for future use by Public Works Department.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Develop a new electronic file system

  • Transferring of existing hard copy documents currently on file into electronic files

  • Development of electronic file folders, scanning of documents into electronic form to populate folders

  • Research and understanding of Provincial/Federal Housing Programs including active Section 95 housing within Keewaytinook Okimakanak First Nations.

  • Research and development of an annual maintenance plan to include preventive maintenance plans.

  • Construction - general understanding of building science

  • Experience working with remote First Nation or Indigenous organization and knowledge of structure, culture, and traditions of the communities.

  • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage workload and work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Strong team player with excellent team building skills.

  • Exceptional integrity and professionalism including maintaining confidentiality

  • Assist Keewaytinook Okimakanak Housing Staff and Keewaytinook Okimakanak First Nation Managers in the Communities

  • Travel via air to remote First Nations (winter road access only) as required.

  • Other duties as directed by Keewaytinook Okimakanak housing manager

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent practical experience

  • Housing Youth Internship age criteria between 15 to 30 years old

  • High proficiency with Microsoft (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat

  • Knowledge of SharePoint file system would be considered an asset.

  • Ability to speak Ojibway/Cree language considered an asset

  • Valid G license.

The Intern will gain Exposure in these areas:

  • Federal/Provincial Housing Program Information, Microsoft Programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

  • Gain valuable experience, knowledge and challenges facing remote First Nation Housing

Rate: $20.00 per hour

Keewaytinook Okimakanak, which means Northern Chiefs in Oji-Cree, is a non-political Chiefs Council serving Deer Lake, Fort Severn, Keewaywin, McDowell Lake, North Spirit Lake and Poplar Hill First Nations. The organization is directed by the Chiefs of the member First Nations who form the Board of Directors. Through its close awareness of community needs and its team approach, the Council advises and assists its member First Nations. The Council provides services in the areas of health, education, economic development, employment assistance, legal, public works, finance and administration, and computer communications (K-Net Services). The Executive Director liaises with the six Chiefs, with the staff of the Council and with other organizations and governments.
