The position involves conducting experiments for the project entitled “Development of novel peptide therapeutics for the treatment of fibrosis”. The research direction will be provided by the principal investigator (PI), Anie Philip. The incumbent is expected to make a significant and impactful contribution conceptually, technically and experimentally to the project to take it to the next stage.

Responsabilities and Objectives

General duties will involve working with the PI on the development of the research project. This will include:

• Conduct Independent Research: Lead and execute original research projects under the supervision of the PI, contributing to the generation of new data and ideas within the lab's focus area.

• Experimental Design and Data Analysis: Design, perform, and troubleshoot experiments, collect, analyze, and interpret data using appropriate statistical and computational methods.

• Become an Expert in Relevant Scientific Literature: Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the current literature in the relevant field(s), critically evaluate new publications to inform experimental design, hypothesis generation, and scientific interpretation.

• Mentorship and Supervision: Mentor graduate and undergraduate students, provide training and guidance in experimental protocols and data analysis.

• Maintain Lab Records and Compliance: Ensure accurate record-keeping of experimental protocols, results, and reagents, maintain compliance with institutional and funding agency regulations, including safety and ethics protocols.

Required Skills

• Expertise in Fibrosis or Related Disease Models: Preference will be given to candidates with a background in the pathophysiology of fibrosis including in vitro and/or in vivo models of fibrotic disease.

• Peptide Therapeutic Development Experience: Demonstrated experience with peptide formulation and/or delivery strategies (e.g., nanoparticle carriers, controlled release systems) will be an asset.

• Molecular and Cellular Biology Techniques

Proficiency in techniques such as qPCR, Western blotting, ELISA, immunostaining, flow cytometry, and RNA/protein analysis.

• In Vivo Experimental Skills (Preferred): Experience with animal models (e.g., bleomycin-induced lung fibrosis) including dosing, tissue collection, and histological analysis.

• Analytical and Quantitative Skills: Ability to design experiments, analyze complex datasets, and apply appropriate statistical methods.

• Strong Publication Record: Evidence of scientific productivity through peer-reviewed publications, particularly in the fields of fibrosis, drug development, or peptide therapeutics.

• Critical Thinking and Problem Solving: Strong analytical skills and ability to troubleshoot experimental challenges independently.

• Excellent Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to write manuscripts, contribute to grant applications, and present data clearly.
