Description The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority is seeking a motivated Physician Assistant/Clinical Assistant for a position in the Child Health Program at the Children’s Hospital, Health Sciences Centre. The successful applicant will work within the Section of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.
This is an exciting opportunity in Pediatric Critical Care. HSC Winnipeg’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is launching a new Clinical Assistant / Physician Assistant role, offering a unique opportunity for individuals who are eager to learn, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and are driven to provide high-quality care to some of the most complex pediatric cases in the province. As part of a dedicated, multidisciplinary team, you will work alongside expert clinicians and have the opportunity to develop advanced procedural skills—including intubation, arterial line placement, and more—while using cutting-edge technology in a state-of-the-art critical care setting.
The Physician/Clinical Assistant will practice in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and will work closely and alongside the Pediatric Intensivists. The PICU is a teaching unit, with residents from the Pediatric, Emergency Medicine and Anesthesia Residency programs. Medical students also rotate through the PICU electively.

Supportive Onboarding and Clinical Mentorship Clinical Assistants in the PICU receive structured, hands-on onboarding and are paired with experienced preceptor physicians who provide direct clinical guidance, mentorship, and ongoing support. This collaborative model ensures a smooth integration into the unit and fosters continuous learning and professional development in a highly specialized care environment.
Responsibilities The Physician Assistant/Clinical Assistant will be required to perform, order, and interpret diagnostic, therapeutic investigations/interventions. Duties of this position can/will include performing history and physical exams in a variety of settings that could include the Emergency Department and wards, as well as following patients in the pre/peri/postoperative ward and/or other clinical settings.
Physician Assistant/Clinical Assistants will be required to attend clinical and educational rounds. Administrative requirements will include standard of practice recordings of all patient encounters, these methods may require dictating or utilizing electronic medical records where/when available. Assistants must be able to communicate effectively in English with other members of interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
THIS IS NOT A MEDICAL ASSISTANT OR MEDICAL OFFICE ASSISTANT POSITION Salary will commensurate with experience and qualifications and is accompanied by a benefits package.
Qualifications
- Must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba as a Physician Assistant or Clinical Assistant.
- Must be eligible for a Medical Staff Appointment
- Prior experience preferred.
Physician Assistants
- Candidates must be a graduate of a Physician Assistant Educational Program acceptable to CPSM
Clinical Assistants
- Must be a graduate of an accredited Medical School in Canada or abroad
- Must have at least one of the following:
- Clinical Assistant Assessment
- NAC OSCE
- LMCC
This position is subject to a Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search, Adult Abuse and Child Abuse Registry Checks.
