The Senior Manager, Accounting & Tax is responsible for leading accounting, financial reporting, and taxation activities while ensuring regulatory compliance. This role requires excellent communication skills, tax, and statutory compliance and filing. Solid knowledge of accounting, tax, and OSFI regulatory reporting and experience in preparation of financial statement and annual audit will be ideal talent for this role.

Key Responsibilities :

Accounting & Financial Control

  • Lead and oversee day-to-day accounting operations
  • Ensure integrity of general ledger, chart of accounts, and internal controls
  • Review unaudited financial statements and supervise external audit process
  • Provide IFRS-based accounting advice to internal teams
  • Develop and update accounting policies and procedures
  • Analyze Expected Credit Loss (ECL) reports and advise on accounting implications

Taxation

  • Oversee preparation and review of all tax filings (corporate, indirect, non-resident, PST)
  • Ensure timely and accurate tax remittances and year-end tax provisions
  • Coordinate foreign tax credit reporting with HQ and affiliates
  • Monitor and manage tax compliance risks

Financial & Management Reporting

  • Supervise preparation of monthly financial statements (BS/PL) and performance reports
  • Review intercompany transactions and prepare reports for HQ and Board Meetings
  • Contribute to business and strategic planning processes

Regulatory Reporting & Public Disclosure

  • Oversee preparation and review of regulatory reports (OSFI, BoC, Statistics Canada)
  • Ensure compliance with evolving regulatory requirements
  • Maintain public disclosure documents as required by OSFI

People Management & Other Duties

  • Hire, train, and supervise direct reports
  • Support CFO with ad hoc projects and process improvement initiatives

Qualification and Skills :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Economics, or a related field (preferred)
  • CPA designation (required)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in general accounting or taxation
  • At least 3 years of experience managing direct reports
  • Experience in the Canadian banking industry (required)
  • Familiarity with regulatory reporting to OSFI (minimum 1 year)
  • Experience with IRRBB (Interest Rate Risk in the Banking Book) is an asset
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and delegate effectively
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles and banking operations
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Proactive approach to improving processes and driving efficiency
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities; flexible with working hours
  • Clear and professional communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Korean language proficiency is an asset
