About the role

The Translator is responsible for translating and reviewing various documents from English into French by using translation tools judiciously to ensure quality and consistency while meeting deadlines. Content will be directed to both internal and external audiences.

  • Translate and review, from English to French, documents sent by HR, Marketing and other departments, such as emails, letters, intranet posts, internal policies, website content, articles, bios, pitches, conference material, etc.
  • Liaise with requesters to understand their translation requirements, obtain missing information and resolve terminology questions.
  • Conduct terminological research to produce high-quality translations, and add to the terminology database by creating and updating records.
  • Ensure all translated documents, particularly Marketing and Business Development documents, comply with and are in the spirit of the Firm’s brand, guidelines and standards.
  • Maintain and update the firm’s intranet.
  • Prioritize work to be completed internally and determine work to be outsourced to translation vendors.
  • Bachelor’s degree in translation.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience as a full-time English-to-French translator in a structured work environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Solid knowledge of computer-assisted translation tools, in particular Logiterm.
  • Legal training is an asset.
  • Membership in OTTIAQ is an asset.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in both French and English, as the candidate will be required to interact in English with stakeholders outside Quebec.
  • Results-oriented, self-directed individual with the ability to prioritize in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work well both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Interest for terminology research, particularly in the legal field.

This position is part of our hybrid work model with 4 days in the office per week. As part of our onboarding, new hires are required to be in the office more often for the first few months of employment to ensure they receive the requisite cross training.
