About this opportunity:
Cenovus is seeking a Senior Turnaround Operations Planner to join its organization. This is a full-time employee position working a shift rotation.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring all operations requirements in turnaround plans are logical and fit for purpose. This role involves collaborating with Operations on the operational aspects of turnaround plans and schedules to ensure alignment. Additionally, the Senior Turnaround Operations Planner will coordinate all operational activities during the turnaround, ensuring the process is conducted safely.
This position is based at Christina Lake but will require travel to Cenovus's other Oil Sands Operations sites (Foster Creek and Sunrise).

Sunrise

Sunrise is located approximately 100 km northeast of the City of Fort McMurray and is a fly in/ fly out remote camp-based position.

Cenovus will provide transportation to Sunrise from designated hubs out of Calgary and Edmonton

At the Sunrise site, employees will be provided comfortable camp accommodations and recreational amenities
What you’ll do:
- Support turnaround planning and management processes, including completion of assigned items in the TAR milestones and plan-to-plan, while driving continuous improvement in turnaround and outage management processes
- Perform scope-gathering activities with operations and maintenance teams and lead Operations & FMT planning meetings to review, challenge, and finalize all aspects of the FMT work scope
- Ensure integration with all Operations groups (OPS, RFO, CMT, ENG, OCSU, OCT), mitigate conflicts arising from isolations, purging, draining, and scheduling, and review overall LOTO planning to ensure the scope is comprehensive
- Find opportunities for cost optimization and production improvement, while building and supporting operations budget development, including: fluid haul estimates, N2 requirements, and Operations Regular SWT and OT resourcing costs
- Develop and integrate the plant ramp-down/ramp-up (RDRU) into the overall schedule, by working closely with Operations teams and building detailed isolation plans for each piece of equipment being isolated
- Support the creation of a coordinated schedule encompassing Operations and Maintenance activities, conduct critical path reviews, and contribute to developing a risk register with effective mitigation strategies
- Review and enhance existing procedures, develop new ones specific to turnarounds, and coordinate TAR-specific requirements for permitting and safe work practices
- Support Operations in developing external reports, including flaring, and assist with operations readiness activities by facilitating communication and working sessions to ensure Operations fully understand the work scope and schedule
- Ensure pre-work activities are supervised and tracked on the schedule, verifying that all required resources, tools, and equipment for operations are prepared (e.g., nitrogen decontamination, temporary tanks, locks, cables, purging, temporary flares)
- Lead daily Operations Turnaround (TAR) meetings to review schedule attainment and progress, and maintain shift focus reports to ensure effective turnover and flawless coordination during the turnaround
- Facilitate daily schedule reviews and critical path analyses to optimize the overall turnaround duration, address late or emergent scope changes, and collaborate with operations and maintenance leadership to effectively manage risks and capitalize on opportunities
- Assist with issue resolution, including bringing up concerns to operations and turnaround leaders as needed, and conducting field audits to assess HSE compliance and work progress
Who you are:
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:
- Legally authorized to work in Canada
- 8+ Years of Oil Sands operations experience
- Minimum Third Class Power Engineer Certificate
- Experience supporting major maintenance or turnaround planning, acting as an operations liaison with projects, and working with scheduling software such as P6 or MS Project are all considered assets
