Skills
We find that people are most successful in this role when they have:
- Proven experience as a Scrum Master (2+ years preferred) in a software or product development environment, ideally within a SaaS company
- Experience working closely with product development teams and contributing to the creation and rollout of Scrum processes and practices from the ground up
- A deep understanding of Agile principles, values, and the Scrum framework
- Experience with facilitating Scrum ceremonies and guiding teams through sprint cycles
- Excellent communication, facilitation, coaching, and interpersonal skills
- Strong problem solving abilities and a knack for helping teams navigate challenges
- Experience with Agile project management tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, or similar)
- Ability to foster a collaborative, trusting, and safe environment for teams
- A passion for continuous learning, improvement, and helping others grow
- Bachelor's degree or certification in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience
Bonus
- Relevant Scrum Master certifications (e.g., CSM, PSM I/II) are a strong asset
- Previous experience working in a startup environment
What You Will Be Doing
As our Scrum Master, you will be instrumental in guiding our product development teams and in building our Scrum process and practice from the ground up. Your key responsibilities will include
Sprint Facilitation: Organize and facilitate all Scrum ceremonies, including Sprint Planning, Daily Scrums, Sprint Reviews, and Sprint Retrospectives, ensuring they are productive and achieve their objectives
Agile Coaching & Guidance: Act as a coach and mentor to the development team(s) on Agile principles and Scrum practices, fostering a deep understanding and consistent application of the framework
Sprint Management: Guide the team in effective sprint execution, including the daily organization, assignment, prioritization, and distribution of tasks to meet sprint goals
Impediment Removal: Proactively identify, track, and remove impediments or obstacles that hinder the team's progress, protecting the team from external distractions
Backlog Collaboration: Work closely with Product Managers and the CPO (Product Owner) to ensure the product backlog is well-groomed, clearly understood, and ready for sprint planning
Continuous Improvement: Foster a culture of continuous improvement by encouraging reflection, identifying areas for enhancement in team processes, and implementing best practices
Transparency & Communication: Promote transparency through visible progress tracking (e.g., sprint boards, burndown charts) and ensure clear, effective communication within the team and with relevant stakeholders
Team Empowerment: Support the team in becoming self-organizing and cross-functional, empowering them to take ownership and make decisions
Agile Advocacy: Champion Agile and Scrum principles throughout the relevant parts of the organization
Compensation
Our market data is refreshed on an annual basis to reflect the most current market conditions. The starting salary band for this role is $80,000 - 95,000 CAD.
Starting salaries will vary within this range based on experience, skill level, and internal equity related to the role. In addition to base salary, the total compensation package may include additional components such as equity, and benefits.
