Your Opportunity:
This is an exciting opportunity with the Strathcona Community Hospital IV Therapy Clinic. This facility offers a 24/7 Emergency Department, and a variety of Ambulatory, Laboratory and Diagnostic Imaging services. The Unit Clerk, under the general supervision of the Manager, serves as the point of first contact in matters concerning the efficient administration of the IV Therapy Clinic. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the successful incumbent will be responsible for the management of incoming and outgoing telephone calls, greeting and directing patients/visitors, and managing patient records/charts. The incumbent is responsible for relaying information related to admissions/transfers/discharges of patients, diagnostic testing, booking appointments and patient consults. The Unit Clerk is responsible for transcribing and processing clinician orders, including medication/laboratory/diagnostic imaging, and treatment orders. The Unit Clerk is also responsible for ensuring an adequate level of supplies are available on the unit for use by the inter-professional team, and performing a range of administrative activities in support of the Clinic.

As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum of 1-year recent experience in a Unit Clerk position with preference given to those with experience in an IV Therapy Clinic. Basic typing skills, and 1 year experience working with computer applications such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and Netcare. Education and recent experience utilizing Connect Care – trained in scheduling and EMR (Ambulatory application).
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong critical thinking skills, along with demonstrated time-management and organization skills in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrated ability to prioritize work, and effectively work with frequent interruptions, noise, and nearby distractions. Outstanding communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills. Well-developed and demonstrated interpersonal skills.
