We are excited to offer the District Manager in Training program role for the Ontario (Non-GTA) Market. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to further their understanding of the business through personal development and direct experience in a rotational based learning program. The program will be personalized based on the individual’s skill set and can include:

Accountabilities:

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with Owners and Store Support teams in order to promote store performance.
  • Assist District Managers with control standards such as Health and Safety, inventory, product recalls, and food safety.
  • Provide assistance to stores in the execution of merchandising and operational standards like backroom processes, customer service, maintenance, receiving, and hours of operation.
  • Achieve labor targets to maximize profitability while ensuring customer satisfaction. Achieve shrink targets through effective inventory control and the implementation of loss prevention initiatives.
  • Assist with the development of store operational plan and management team, review third party and service contracts, execute Fresh and GM filling plan, and ensure on-time setup within allocated budget.
  • Support initiatives designed to increase employee engagement, improve labor productivity, and improve recruitment and retention. Contribute to and implement programs designed to increase employee capability across the region and provide coaching to improve performance of stores.
  • Provide input to the District Managers regarding format and business unit strategy, budget, product assortment, and other matters. Provide input into the development of operational standards as requested.
  • Monitor the competitive environment in the assigned regions and propose market-focused responses.

Role Requirements:

  • Operations experience with a solid working knowledge of store systems, profit and loss statements, processes, procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills.
  • 3-5 years of experience coaching, developing, and managing in retail environment
  • Excellent knowledge of store systems (SAP, STAS, SWEDA MART, etc.) and proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Exposure to and understanding of store reports (P&L, COS, Labour Management, Shrink, etc.); and the ability to articulate and apply that understanding.
  • Comfortable managing within a union/nonunion environment with a focus on coaching and development.
  • Demonstrated high level of professionalism and ability to deal effectively with all levels within the organization as well as external contacts
  • Travel is required (Overnight trips)
