About the role

Job Identification:

The Parish Operations Coordinator is the key contact for events and activities taking place at Saint Mary's Cathedral Basilica including liturgical celebrations in the main church, activities and events in the parish hall, and meals and hospitality in the Glebe. Coordinating these daily and weekly activities would constitute 50% of the daily work. The Cathedral building renovations and maintenance are activities that require coordination. Working with the Archdiocesan Building and Property Manager, you will be involved in tracking renovation and maintenance activities as they relate to operational issues.

As the key contact from the parish perspective, you will need to be proactive in your communications with key stakeholders including Contractors and Suppliers, Glebe Chef, and others. This role is also a resource for the St. Mary's Foundation and their fund raising activities in support of the restorations and repairs to the Cathedral. You may be required to attend meetings and present the voice of the parish operations as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • In response to the Administrator and the Director of Liturgy, coordinate events and activities in the main church of the Cathedral.
    • This includes scheduling liturgical events and coordinating hospitality arrangements.
  • Oversee all aspects of room and board at the Glebe, including collaboration with the Chef and housekeeping staff to meet the needs of residents and guests.
  • Oversee the maintenance and care of the Cathedral property and parking lot.
  • Ensure the safety of the building and the well-being of the public visiting the Cathedral.
  • From a parish perspective, coordinate necessary repairs and maintenance to support the effective operation of the Cathedral and the Glebe.
  • In consultation with the Archdiocesan Property and Building Manager, coordinate restoration activities with a focus on supporting parish operations.
  • Prepare and present schedules and reports as required.
  • This role does not include supervision of staff.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the Roman Catholic church is required.
  • Working knowledge of Parish activities specifically the Liturgical Year and its liturgical celebrations is preferred.
  • Property management experience is preferred including coordinating maintenance repairs and resolving unexpected operating obstacles. Event Planning experience is required.
  • Experience coordinating a broad range of activities is required.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills are essential.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are required.
  • Ability to implement decisions sensitively and effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work extended hours when necessary.
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise written communication

Conditons of Employment:

  • Core office hours are 8:30AM – 4:30PM
