WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
The RPN is responsible for establishing therapeutic relationships with patients and their families through application of specialized knowledge, skill and judgement, both in assessing health needs and in planning, implementing and evaluating patient care.

WHAT YOU MUST HAVE:

Registered Practical Nurse, currently registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
-
Registered Practical Nurse certificate or education and experience that allows the RPN to practice at full scope
-
A minimum of two (2) years' direct experience working on a Mental Health Inpatient unit required
-
Current BLS Certification
-
Proven assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation skills related to acute medical nursing with the ability to work independently, utilizing critical thinking skillset
-
Basic computer skills (Outlook email, Cerner, Electronic Patient Record)
-
Capability to administer medication inclusive of IV medication administration, with a physician’s order
-
Ability to assess, adapt and respond within a constantly changing environment
-
Demonstrated commitment to ongoing/continuous professional development
-
Demonstrated ability to be self-directed, and to critically problem-solve, and prioritize workload.
-
Demonstrated flexibility within roles and responsibilities with the ability to adapt quickly to changes in assignment throughout a shift.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills with ability to positively influence others and develop trusting internal and external relationships

Physical ability to carry out the essential duties of the position

Ability to regularly attend work in accordance with the Attendance Support Program

WHAT WE PREFER YOU TO HAVE:

Canadian Nursing Association Mental Health Nursing Certificate

Certificate in Gentle Persuasion Approach, PIECES and Montessori

Certification in Concurrent Disorders

Crisis Intervention Training (with pinels)

Working knowledge and skills in application of legislation including but not limited to the Mental Health Act, PHIPA
-
Demonstrated knowledge of advanced psycho-social and mental status assessment skills
-
Extensive knowledge and skills working with various types of mental health issues and additions
-
Knowledge of medication side effects
HOURS:
The successful candidate must be available to work all tours applicable to the department. In addition, this position must be flexible to occasional changes in hours when required to meet the operational needs of the department.
