This is a hybrid position with a mix of in-office and remote work. Work arrangements will be discussed with hiring managers per departmental guidelines.
Your role
Have a passion for the digital space? Are you a seasoned product manager who has experience with data collection and/or internal management platforms and is comfortable in technical environments? If so, this opportunity with Digital Media is for you.
Why is this role important?
You’ll join the Digital Media team where a major initiative is underway to modernize Radio-Canada’s digital ecosystem and make it more resilient in an evolving media environment. This work will be carried out in close co-operation with various departments and will help build the public broadcaster’s future.
The Product Manager maximizes generated value by focusing on road-map responsibilities and the delivery of product features. In developing a product feature or feature set for CBC/Radio-Canada, you ensure that it meets expectations — that it’s best-in-class for external users and internal administrators from a function, reliability and security perspective. You’ll work within an agile team. You may also act as an integrator, focused on growing market share through engagement, retention or revenue-related product activities. You’ll collaborate with other product teams and product managers to help achieve your objectives.
Your goal as Product Manager, Data Collection, will be to consolidate most data collection services into a server-side product offering to streamline and simplify the process, ensuring the resilience and scalability of data collection services made available to product teams across our various destinations. You’ll be responsible for co-ordinating the execution of work iteratively with a variety of roles on our digital projects, including architects, developers and designers; quality engineering, data operations and marketing leads; platform vendors; and User Marketing team members.
Key Tasks
- Co-ordinate the implementation of new data collection platforms with the respective suppliers, internal teams and stakeholders.
- Lead the creation of user stories and tasks in general for the team’s backlogs.
- Continuously manage and refine backlogs with the team’s assistance.
- Prioritize work based on department goals and commitments to stakeholders.
- Contribute to the definition of team OKRs and planning of product road maps.
- Promote collaboration with other product teams across Digital Strategy & Products.
Skills and Competencies
- Agile training, knowledge and on-the-job experience.
- Delivery methodology and requirement visibility.
- Ability to be observant of user information or feedback (user- or audience-facing experience is gained within the role).
- Focus on results.
- Backlog entry and ticket management.
- Story-level values and trade-offs; tiebreaking.
- Platform or subject-matter expertise from applied experience.
Applied Skills
- Experience managing backlogs using management tools such as Atlassian’s Jira, Confluence, Bamboo and Bitbucket.
- CRM, CDP and/or DMP integration and operation experience on one or more platforms an asset.
- Web analytics systems integration experience with Adobe, Amplitude, Comscore, Chartbeat, Conductrics, Cxense or equivalents an asset.
- Awareness of the purpose and application of in-house systems, such as an abstracted data collection pipeline, device ID, user ID and session ID provisioning.
- Basic knowledge of QA automation development tools and platforms.
- Demonstrable experience with scoping, planning and delivering complex and inclusive digital projects to quality, time and budget constraints using Agile methodologies.
- Ability to explain requirements in a way that makes them understandable to team members.
- Experience with continuous improvement and test-driven development to improve the product delivery process.
- Experience writing clear agendas and facilitating meetings that drive toward consensus, decision-making and, most importantly, following up on action items.
Communication
- Ability to communicate well and frequently with agile team members and stakeholders.
- Ability to give quantitative findings to product team members, product managers and certain stakeholders with the intent of helping align their work activities.
- Bilingualism (English and French) an asset.
Mindset
- Ability to act as a subject matter expert or resourceful agent for their agile product team and other product teams.
- Genuine interest in audience data management and passion for product development.
- Enthusiasm and passion for all forms of media.
- Good understanding of privacy guidelines and concerns in digital media.
Qualifications
- Experience sharing and managing responsibilities within an agile product team (e.g., following Scrum or Kanban methodology).
- Proven ability to communicate trade-offs and benefits in support of decision-making.
- Commitment to reflecting the CBC community and a diverse, contemporary Canada.
Please note this is a 12-month contract position, renewable annually. This regular position is not a consulting assignment but a long-term opportunity with competitive CBC/Radio-Canada employee benefits.
