About the role

Doctors Manitoba is looking for an experienced Therapist to provide individual and group counselling and support for physicians, medical learners, and their dependents, including youth 12 – 17 years old. This position will also co-facilitate peer support groups, create and deliver educational sessions, and work with other service providers as required.

To be an excellent Therapist you will have a Master’s Degree in Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing, Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work or Counselling Psychology, and be an active member of the related college or regulatory body. You are compassionate, trauma-informed, organized and detail-oriented, and comfortable working with diverse teams. If you have further experience and skills in providing services to physicians or other health care professionals, we would like to meet you.

Therapist Responsibilities

  • Respond to the intake phone line calls and messages.
  • Triage calls as appropriate, including referrals to other physician and medical learner supports and other services as required.
  • Crisis intervention as needed.
  • Brief and longer-term therapeutic counselling for individuals on issues related to mental health and addictions.
  • Individual, couples, and adolescent counselling.
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate group-based peer-support programs, and educational sessions.
  • Prepare compliance reports as required for CPSM or employers.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing, Family Therapy, Social Work or Counselling Psychology
  • Must be an active practicing member corresponding college or regulatory body.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve effectively in complex situations.
  • Independent decision making and assessment of clients where direct access to supervision is not immediately available.
  • Previous experience counselling physicians, medical learners, or other health care professionals is an asset.
  • Personal experience with social, economic, political, and historical realities impacting BIPOC Manitobans, familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism is considered an asset.

Work Environment

In-office daytime, evening, and some weekend hours in Winnipeg.
