Transit Operator (Permanent Part-time)
About the role
The Opportunity:
The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting for Transit Operators to fill five (5) permanent part-time positions. Under the general direction of the Senior Operations Supervisor – Conventional Bus, the Transit Operator operates public transit vehicles on prescribed and other routing, ensuring schedule adherence and the comfort and safety of passengers. Carry out driving duties in accordance with highway traffic act regulations and the Transit Bus Policy Manual as it relates to driver responsibilities and the passenger assistance.
As our preferred candidate, you will have:
- Completed Grade 12, a combination of experience and education may be considered
- Minimum of 1 to 2 years of commercial driving experience is desirable
- Must hold a minimum of a Class 2 Alberta Operators License with a Q endorsement
- Must have a knowledge of basic traffic laws and regulations pertaining to local by-laws and the Highway Traffic Act.
- Must have the ability to maintain effective customer relations with transit patrons and the general public.
- Must have the ability to maintain effective working relations with other staff members, supervisors and management.
- Must have the ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment in a variety of traffic and emergency situations
- Must have the ability to understand instructions and effectively communicate orally and in writing.
- Completion of a First Aid course and Defensive Driving course is desirable
- Will be required to work in a variety of weather conditions and close contact with the public.
- Adherence to levels of service achieved will be performed under the scrutiny of transit patrons, the general public and supervisory staff.
- Criminal record check (completed by our HR department)

Remuneration:
$30.70 to $34.11 per hour
Hours of Work:
Up to 80 hours biweekly, with no minimum guarantee of hours; successful applicants must maintain availability between 4:00 am and 12:00 am on scheduled working days.
