Practice Lead Civil / Structural Forensic Engineering

Overview
Newtron Forensic Engineering is seeking a respected senior engineer to lead and grow our Civil / Structural Forensic Engineering practice. This is a unique opportunity to establish and direct a technical group focused on investigating structural failures, building envelope issues, code compliance, and construction defects. The successful candidate will drive technical excellence, mentor high-caliber engineers, and manage complex forensic assignments across residential, commercial, and industrial environments.
Management Requirements
• Lead and expand a top-tier Civil / Structural Forensic Engineering team
• Define the strategic vision and operational roadmap for the practice
• Serve as the firm’s technical authority on structural and building systems investigations
• Cultivate strong relationships with law firms, insurers, builders, and property stakeholders
• Review and validate expert reports, damage assessments, and remedial recommendations
• Coach and mentor engineers to ensure technical rigor and professional development
• Collaborate with other practice leads on multidisciplinary and large-loss investigations
Technical Requirements
• Structural failure investigations involving wood, steel, concrete, and masonry
• Building envelope failures: water ingress, cladding detachment, air leakage, and thermal performance
• Construction defect evaluations and code compliance analysis (OBC, NBCC)
• Impact assessment of natural forces (wind, snow, soil movement) and vehicular loads
• Foundation and framing assessments, retaining walls, and structural retrofits
• Damage evaluations from water, fire, impact, and deferred maintenance
• Civil siteworks investigations including grading, drainage, and retaining systems
• Peer review of design documents and construction drawings
• Demonstrative evidence and litigation support for insurers and counsel
Educational Background
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Ph.D. is an asset)
Licence Requirements
• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario or eligible for licensure
• Expert witness testimony experience or litigation background preferred
Market Expertise
• Structural damage analysis, and engineering litigation
• Experience across commercial buildings, residential developments, and infrastructure
• Stakeholders include insurance carriers, legal professionals, property managers, and developers
Project Experience
• Minimum 10 years of engineering experience
• At least 5 years in forensic engineering, claims, or dispute resolution (preferred)
• Leadership in complex, high-stakes civil or structural engineering cases
