Job Type: Full-Time Term Position (3 days on, 3 days off, 7am to 7pm) until October 2025
Pay: $59,124 per annum (based on 2190 hours)
About the Role
We’re looking for a Term Shift Supervisor to join our Detox team at Alpha House. This position provides leadership and guidance to front line staff across a range of Alpha House programs. Working closely with Program Coordinators and Managers, Shift Supervisors respond to critical incidents, support debriefings, and ensure the delivery of compassionate, high-quality client services. As a Shift Supervisor, you would also provide direct care to clients, promote a respectful and safe workplace, and support the development and implementation of new programming. Your responsibilities would include:
- Supervising, training, coaching, and mentoring front line staff
- Providing client care and support appropriate to the program and staff role
- Addressing client concerns and escalating serious issues to Program Coordinators/Managers
- Facilitating shift exchanges, conducting staff performance reviews, and recommending disciplinary action as needed
- Supporting staff in debriefing after critical incidents and attending to crisis situations
- Maintaining a safe and clean work environment, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards
- Preparing purchase orders to ensure supplies are maintained
- Building positive partnerships with community agencies and stakeholders
- Collecting data and supporting reporting for funding and outcomes
- Contributing to new program development and delivery
- Ensuring staff apply the Stages of Change model in client interactions
- Providing oversight on respectful and compassionate personal care for clients
About You
The ideal candidate would have the following:
- Completion of a two-year diploma from a public post-secondary institution in a related field (Bachelor’s degree preferred; those in progress may be considered)
- Minimum of 1 year experience leading a team
- Minimum of 3 years experience working with Indigenous clients, and/or individuals experiencing addiction, homelessness, or mental health challenges
- Knowledge of harm reduction, withdrawal management, trauma-informed care, and the Stages of Change model
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead teams and resolve conflict
- Ability to maintain discretion, confidentiality, and professionalism in a high-demand environment
- Crisis management and de-escalation skills
- Belief in the principles of harm reduction and housing-first
- Experience facilitating group debriefings is an asset
- Knowledge of OH&S, MSDS, WHMIS, and regulatory standards
Position Requirements
- Proof of being vaccinated against COVID
- Ability to obtain Alberta Class 4 driver license within 60 days from start date
- Comfortable working in an environment with exposure to bodily fluids and risk of violence
- Physically able to assist clients from prone to sitting/standing and vice versa
- Able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Search, valid within the last six months, that does not contain any results material to the position
- FOIP Certification
- “It’s Your Move” or equivalent patient lift training
- Able to work day, evening, and overnight (all awake) shifts
