POSITION OVERVIEW
Jones DesLauriers is always looking for talent in the Insurance Industry! We are accepting applications for a Surety Specialist reporting to the Partner, Surety Director. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing advisory services to a portfolio of our clients. The role requires a strong sense of working collaboratively as a team member in a fast-paced environment. existing construction surety accounts. This is a highly technical and market facing position and candidate with previous experience as a surety underwriter will excel. You will have the opportunity to fully apply and hone your underwriting, financial analysis, credit analysis, and marketing skills. The position requires the candidate to provide superior customer service in managing the day-to-day needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act as a subject matter expert for the Surety Bonding practice (traditional contract surety and commercial surety)
- Underwriting of new and existing contract and commercial surety business. Serving as key contact, underwrite an assigned portfolio of accounts with a high level of autonomy.
- Collaborate with other team members, in both the surety and insurance departments in a professional and solution focused fashion
- Demonstrate ability to provide detailed recommendations of bond and account support using highly developed skills in financial and credit analysis. Negotiate account and / or bond specific terms and conditions with surety markets.
- Manage and develop new and existing relationships with key surety markets and professionally represent the company at industry events, associations, and with our surety company partners
- Participation in team meetings providing updates related to assigned portfolio of accounts, surety companies and/or territory, market intelligence, etc.
- Proactively engage in the target account process, developing and managing a qualified list of opportunities.
- Assist and manage potential surety claims situations and act as a liaison between all interest parties in the claims process.
REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 3 years Surety underwriting experience. (Previous experience with at a brokerage is a plus.)
- University degree preferred
- CPA, RIBO, ACSB, CAIB, CIP designations are well received but not required.
- Superb interpersonal skills and attention to detail
- Ability to be a self starter with strong written and oral communication skills as well as organizational skills
- Advanced skills in Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint
- Solid understanding of the construction industry
- Strong analytical skills and solid understanding of financial statements and business cycles of construction companies
- Experience with surety claims and well versed in contract law is an asset.
