The Opportunity
An internal promotion has opened up an exciting 12-month fixed-term opportunity within our Planning team. The Planner role is pivotal in enhancing member experience and profitability through strategic management of inventory and mix. Core responsibilities include developing sales, margin, and inventory plans based on key performance analytics. With the dynamic nature of retail, planners must maintain agility in planning for future seasons while effectively managing day-to-day operations within weekly, period, quarterly and seasonal cycles
MEC is a leading national Omni Channel retailer with a diverse portfolio. Our planning team serves as the primary analytics lead, guiding investments in categories and brands, as well as orchestrating inventory planning across our brick-and-mortar locations to enhance the member and business experience
Location: This can be a hybrid from MEC's Home Office in Vancouver or Remote within Canada
As a Planner, you'll be:
- Develop and maintain merchandise plans to optimize sales, gross margin, inventory, turnover, GMROI, and product availability across channel and brand plans. These plans span both pre-season and in-season strategies for booked and replenishment products.
- Collaborate with merchants to translate their product vision into logical merchandise plans.
- Managing Open-To-Buy (OTB) and directing spending to ensure it aligns with budgetary constraints and strategic objectives.
- Perform thorough analysis of key performance indicators (KPIs) on a weekly, periodic, seasonal, and annual basis to guide decision-making for future season planning and adeptly manage risks and opportunities during the current season.
- Implement scenario planning to mitigate risk and capitalize on opportunities.
- Foster continuous collaboration with Merchants, Allocation and Replenishment analysts, and replenishment buyers in the business pod to unlock category potential and streamline process efficiencies.
Ideally, you’ll be bringing:
- Post-Secondary degree in related discipline e.g. Business, Supply Chain, Retail Management, or related field of study.
- Minimum 3-5 Years of experience, preferably in retail.
- Can operate with a sense of urgency, demonstrating a strong bias for action and an entrepreneurial spirit.
- Strong analytical skills - you are good at working with numbers!
- Love for Excel at an advanced level.
- Strategic mindset with the ability to think outside of the box.
- Excellent attention to detail – some might call you nitpicky.
- A good team player attitude, even when things get a little crazy.
- Systems savvy and eager to learn new technologies.
The Compensation & Perks
This is a 12 month fixed-term role with an anticipated annual base salary range of $75,500 to $90,000. The exact salary will be dependent on the successful candidate’s relevant skills, experience, location, qualifications and internal equity.
