Job Summary
Under the direction of the Program Manager, you will provide quality childcare programs for school age children that support and promote the well-being of each child and respect and reflect the needs of children, families, and the community. We are looking for fun, creative, passionate, and caring Educators to join our growing team of dedicated, loving and kind staff members. We are in beautiful Cadboro Bay neighborhood, close to UVIC and bus routes. We operate out of two brand new Learning Studios and the Frank Hobbs gymnasium, surrounded by many playgrounds, beaches and forests.
Employment Date: August 25th, 2025 – June 30th, 2026
o Possibility of extension into our Summer Camp programs. Preference is given to applicants who commit to the full school year, but those who can only commit to the UVic/Camosun Academic year will also be considered.
Posting closes: open until positions are filled, continuous hiring of substitutes throughout the year after regular positions are filled.
Salary: $19-21, based on experience, education, and shift commitment - incentives for committing to 4-5 days per week AM or PM. +4% in lieu of vacation pay.
Certified Early Childhood Educators are eligible for the 6$/hour ECE Wage Enhancement as part of our licensed childcare programs.
Hours of Work: Shifts are available between 7:15-9:15am, and 2:15pm-5:30pm. Monday to Friday. Possibility of 2:35pm start to accommodate afternoon classes for UVic students.
- Program closed for Winter break (Dec 22, 2025 – Jan 2, 2026), Spring Break (March 16 – 20, 2026) and all stats. Additional hours available on Pro-d days and Spring break (March 23 – 27, 2026)
Qualifications
o Must be 19 years of age or older
o Preference to applicants with courses or degree in Education, Child and Youth Care, Recreation Ed., Early Childhood Education, etc.
o A minimum of 20 hours of education/training in the areas of child development, guidance, health, safety, and nutrition
o Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification
o Experience working with large groups of school age children in a licensed setting, skilled in group management and supervision
o An acceptable criminal record check
o Ability to sustain attention to multiple situations
o Ability to establish and maintain positive, effective relationships with children, staff members and families.
o A love and excitement for working with children, enthusiasm for the job
Job Description
o Facilitate a fun and engaging afterschool care program for children in grades K-5
o Plan and implement routines that are flexible and responsive to the needs of children and their families. Provide opportunities for a balance of active/quiet and indoor/outdoor experiences.
o Provide a physical environment that is safe, supportive, and inviting participation of children with a range of abilities.
o Follow the Centre’s procedures for maintaining health records and administering medication and first aid. This includes reporting all accidents, injuries, and illnesses to the Program Manager.
o Create and maintain collaborative, supportive relationships with families through greetings, sharing information and discussions.
o Cooperate and share responsibilities with all staff members.
