What you’ll be doing:
This position is for a gifted community connector, someone who enjoys meeting new people, engaging with our program participants, is skilled at hosting welcoming meetings and events, and is interested in public policy and systems change. You thrive at bringing diverse people together to uncover new policy and system change ideas. You are skilled at hosting large events (100-300 people). You will represent Momentum in the community, inviting new people to join our programs, engaging our program graduates, and uncovering public policy change opportunities. This person will also act as an administrative liaison and coordinator between the public policy advocacy work of the Aspire Financial Empowerment Collaborative and the Public Policy Team at Momentum. This position reports to the Director of Community Impact.

Major Responsibilities:
This position will provide support for, input, and coordination in the following areas:

Reaching out to, connecting with, and learning from Momentum program participants of the past, present, and future
-
Increasing the involvement of program participants in public policy or systems change work
-
Connecting authentically with people living on a lower income, and be able to synthesize, summarize, and share their public policy ideas
-
Coordinating activities, events, meetings, and documentation for the public policy team
-
Hosting two major community events each year that are creative, engaging and memorable (Open House and the AGM)
-
Ensuring a high level of connection to and communications with the Aspire Collaborative and Coordinator to advance public policy change related to financial empowerment
-
Providing administrative support to the Public Policy Team and the Public Policy Advisory Group, through preparation of expenses, external communications, agenda development, minutes, and for internal and external reporting
-
Building connections with community organizations, representing and coordinating representation for Momentum in the community at community outreach meetings, events, and resource fairs

What you will need to do the job well:

Education or experience in community and stakeholder engagement
-
Strong interpersonal, relationship-building, and facilitation skills with diverse people
-
Strong communication skills and the ability meaningfully connect with diverse and vulnerable groups to bring forward ensure their voice is heard
-
A willingness to dig deep for information, to pick up the phone to make connections, to host meetings, events, and groups
-
Capable of working in a self-directed manner and collaborating in a team environment
-
Capable of hosting large community events that are welcoming, memorable, accessible and inclusive, of over 100 people but not larger than 500
-
Excellent computer skills including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office
-
Community based engagement or research experience especially with marginalized or barriered individuals, diverse ethno-cultural groups and Indigenous communities
-
A passion for systems-change and some understanding of government policies and processes
-
Knowledge of Calgary communities, awareness of economic issues and opportunities in our local community, provincially, and federally
-
Ability to work in the Momentum office in Calgary including the occasional evening or weekend as well as travel within Calgary and Treaty 7 communities
-
Knowledge of poverty reduction and community economic development (CED) is an asset
-
Languages other than English considered an asset
-
No minimum degree or educational requirements but welcoming diverse educational or training achieved, or lived experience learning
