With a talented team, a welcoming corporate culture and unique office environment, BIG is searching for a results-oriented Accounting Supervisor to oversee an engaged team of accounting professionals while ensuring accounting operations, systems and reporting are diligently completed.

The Accounting Supervisor will report to the Controller and work out of the Welland Head Office.  They will play a leadership role in ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant financial reporting, while upholding internal controls and driving continuous improvement across finance operations.

The successful candidate will have strong accounting and leadership experience, a proactive mindset and a commitment to operational excellence.

Strong candidates will have:

  • A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or working towards completion
  • Completion of a post-secondary education diploma or equivalent in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • 5-7 years of proven experience in finance and/or accounting operations, ideally with experience in both public accounting and industry roles
  • Previous experience supervising or mentoring junior staff
  • Technologically-savvy, adaptable to multiple software platforms. Practical experience with accounting software (Quickbooks, ERM software) & highly proficient with MS Excel
  • Highly collaborative, with exceptional communication skills
  • Strong understanding of internal controls, development of financial statements and financial reporting
  • Proactive, ability to identify issues, develop and implement solutions
  • Enjoys learning; excited to understand the insurance industry and the related accounting complexities

Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Mentor and coach accounting staff, supporting their professional development
  • Supervise full cycle accounting operations, including budgeting, financial reporting, AP, variance analysis, and internal controls.
  • Support audits, acts as the senior lead for SG&A, liaising with external auditors – preparing working papers and providing necessary documents
  • Oversee the accounting for the holding company and the charity financials
  • Prepares financial analysis and reporting, financial statements and recommendations for leadership
  • Resolve vendor/client issues, ensuring prompt communication and resolution
  • Drive continuous improvement, participate in system implementation/updates
  • Collaborate cross-functionally ensuring smooth communication between departments
  • provide strategic financial insights to leadership.

Our History The MTCC’s North Building opened for business on October 2, 1984 with the formal dedication conducted by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The South Building was opened 13 years later, with the official opening by His Royal Highness, the Duke of Edinburgh on June 29, 1997.
