About the role

The Structural Designer/Draftsman plays a vital role in the detail design and drafting of Air-Cooled Heat Exchangers, particularly complete air cooler bays. This position demands a proactive individual with a strong engineering background, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines. Some of the key responsibilities are:

  • Prepare accurate and detailed structural designs and drawings specific to Air Cooled Heat Exchangers, which may be just the bundles or complete air cooler bays.

  • Facilitate the advanced procurement of materials by ensuring precision and clarity in engineering documentation.

  • Review and verify design drawings for accuracy, compliance, and constructability.

  • Collaborate closely with fellow designers to ensure alignment and quality in drafting and detailing practices.

  • Liaise with shop floor personnel and field construction managers to improve design efficiency, fabrication processes, and installation methods.

  • Drive cost-effective solutions through design optimization while maintaining safety and quality standards.

  • Support and mentor junior engineers and technologists, encouraging technical growth within the team.

  • Coordinate with project engineers and shop leadership to align pressure equipment designs with project schedules and operational goals.

  • Develop, refine, and maintain company standards and procedures related to structural design and manufacturing.

  • Lead and manage project activities from initiation through completion, ensuring milestones are met and deliverables meet the required quality standards.

Experience Requirements

  • 5 to 10 years of prior experience in the field of Air-Cooled Heat Exchangers

  • Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) or acceptable equivalent experience

  • Experience working with API 661 codes

  • Excellent Auto-Cad, SolidWorks, Tekla and MS Office skills

  • Strong work ethic characterized by integrity and self-motivation- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced working environment

We provide complete life cycle support for your heat transfer needs - engineering & design, fabrication, repairs & re-tubes, replacement parts, major turn-around field services, and problem-solving / technical support.

All engineering, drafting, project management, procurement, and fabrication occurs at our main facility in Edmonton. We are Canadian owned, and support Canadian workers and operations.

Our primary focus is on Air-Cooled and Shell & Tube heat exchangers, including Helixchangers, Sulphur Condensers, Waste-Heat Boilers, and winterized (re-circulation) air-cooler bays.

We are experienced with most metallurgies - carbon steel, stainless & duplex, chrome-moly including 1-1/4 and 2-1/4, high-nickel alloys like 625, 825, C276, and weld-overlays.
