SALARY RANGE: Starting at $52,020.00 per annum

POSITION TYPE: Full-time, Permanent

LOCATION: La Loche or surrounding area

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Health Operations Manager and Director of Health

Brief Overview:

Under the direct supervision of the Health Operations Manager and Director of Health, the Medical Van Driver will provide transportation to Métis Citizens in the province of Saskatchewan to access medical services such as appointments with physicians, hospital care, publicly funded diagnostic tests and preventive screening programs. These appointments are coordinated through the Medical Travel Assistance Program run by the Métis Nation – Saskatchewan Ministry of Health. The Medical Van Driver will be assisting citizens to access medically required health services that they do not otherwise have the means to travel to on their own. This position will require a valid driver’s license which will be checked regularly. This position will also require significant regular travel to many different communities in the province.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be willing to travel and accommodate requested pick-ups and drop offs.
  • Will need to travel to northern communities on a daily/weekly basis.
  • Be respectful and courteous to citizens utilizing the transportation services.
  • Ensure respectful relationships with other staff, clients, client supports and public.
  • Be knowledgeable and supportive of applicable policies.
  • Ensure the safety and comfort of citizens during transport by maintaining the Medical Transportation Van in safe and sanitary conditions and always adhering to traffic laws.
  • Knowledge of methods for safely assisting in the movement of citizens with mobility issues, which may include persons using wheelchairs or walking aids and/or willingness to be trained.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for safely transporting citizens by passenger vehicle in adherence with the Saskatchewan Traffic Safety Act and/or willingness to be trained.
  • Ensure confidentiality is always maintained.
  • Report maintenance issues to Health Operations Manager to ensure repairs are completed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly logs, records and reports as required by Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) and the MN-S Ministry of Health.
  • General van maintenance and care.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to always maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Willingness to work within a team environment and travel extensively, as required.
  • Excellent work attendance.
  • Ability to display a positive work attitude.
  • Ability to exert up to 50lbs.

Qualifications:

  • Hold and maintain a valid Class 4 driver’s license.
  • Must be 18 years or older; cannot be a novice driver.
  • Must have cell phone, computer, and Microsoft 365 office literacy.
  • Needs to have access to reliable internet/phone service.
  • Hold and maintain a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Related training such as courses in First Aid, Defensive Driving or Heavy Equipment Operation is an asset.
  • Experience working with seniors and persons with disabilities is an asset.

Additional requirements:

  • Must undergo a Criminal Record Check.
  • Must be willing to travel overnight and work occasional overtime hours.
  • Hours of work will be modified based on the location of a successful candidate.
  • Valid Saskatchewan driver’s license and access reliable transportation.
