Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School (STS) is a premier co-educational day school nestled in the Foothills of the Rocky Mountains just outside of the City of Calgary on a 220-acre campus. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, STS offers all three IB Programmes from Kindergarten through to Grade 12.
In addition to the global perspective offered by the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, the School offers an extensive co-curricular program in a technology-rich environment. Students take advantage of the amazing natural setting including a small pond, forest, and extensive trail system to complement their academic learning.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Design Learning Lead, the Junior Innovation Lab Technician will work closely with the Design Learning Lead and the Design Facilitator to assist with the day-to-day maintenance and oversight of the Design Technology equipment. The STS Design program is an innovative, STEM-focused program for students in Grades 7-12. The primary focus of this position is to ensure routine maintenance of equipment, troubleshoot software and hardware issues, and the support safe and effective use of tools and equipment. The role requires effective communication with faculty and students, and a proactive mindset to ensure the success of the Design program. The hours of work for this position are 20 hours per week and additional hours may be required during peak times and more intense projects. This is a temporary position from August 25, 2025 to June 30, 2026, with the possibility of extension depending on the needs of the program.
This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.
Core Areas of Responsibility:
Operations
· Support teachers with the operation of Design equipment.
· Develop and implement a regular maintenance schedule
· Ensure safe working procedures
Equipment, Tools and Resources
· Develop, and promote Health & Safety protocols in the innovation and design labs.
· Maintain safety policy within designated lab areas.
· Conduct basic/routine and critical preventative maintenance of design technology equipment.(Specific equipment includes 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machines, injection molders, resin printers, and wood lathes).
· Check, maintain and repair design equipment.
· Assist with sourcing, purchasing, and inventory of supplies, tools, and equipment for G7-12 Design (including capital items).
· Assist faculty and students with the use of tools and equipment.
Technology
· Remain up-to-date with industry trends and updates on equipment utilization.
· Provide support and troubleshooting for software and hardware issues.
· Skilled in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, experience with Autodesk Fusion is an asset.
· Demonstrated experience in graphic design software
Programming
· Support ideation and innovation within the STS school environment in consultation with the Design Learning Leader.
· Collaborate and consult with design faculty to support the implementation of design curriculum.
Qualifications and Experience
· Post-secondary training, completion of a community college certificate including trades apprenticeships or equivalent is considered an asset.
· 2-year ASET creditable Engineering Technology in manufacturing or similar, is considered an asset.
· Demonstrated experience with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) modelling and graphic design (SolidWorks, Fusion 360 and Adobe Illustrator is is preferred).
· Demonstrated experience with creating
prototypes and operating fabrication equipment.
· Demonstrated experience with a range of
equipment including 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machines,
injection molders, resin printers, and wood lathes.
· Demonstrated experience in software
applications including CAD, graphic design and Python.
