The Opportunity:
The primary focus of this role is to support the ingestion, transformation, and staging of CGMH’s datasets into a unified data platform—Microsoft Fabric. With numerous internal and external data sources, including iPort, Telehealth, the Ministry of Health (MOH), CIHI, Statistics Canada, and others, the successful candidate will collaborate closely with the CGMH data team to build and refine robust data pipelines.
In addition to data engineering, the Data Solutions Consultant will apply advanced data modeling skills to enhance the Business Intelligence team’s semantic models. The goal is to accelerate the delivery of high-value analytical solutions that support decision-making across the organization. This is a multifaceted role that blends:
- Technical expertise (particularly in data engineering and Microsoft Fabric),
- Consulting skills (requirements gathering and stakeholder engagement), and
- Project management acumen (including DevOps and CI/CD practices).

Qualifications:
Education:

An undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Health Sciences, Health Information Management, Health Informatics, or a closely related discipline is required.

A master’s degree in data Analytics, Health Informatics, Computer Science, or a related field is strongly preferred and will be considered a significant asset.

Demonstrated proficiency in data analysis and programming languages, including Python (PySpark), SQL, and R.
-
Familiarity with AGILE/Scrum methodologies and experience working in iterative, collaborative development environments.

Microsoft Certification such as Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate is considered a strong asset and indicative of a candidate’s commitment to continuous learning and technical excellence.
Technical Skills:
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in data engineering, preferably with distributed technologies such as Apache Spark, Databricks, and Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse) using Medallion Architecture.
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory.
- Experience in data modelling using Apache Spark Notebook development
- Experience using Azure DevOps is preferred.
- Proficiency in SQL, Python (PySpark), and R for data analysis, engineering and transformation.
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server tools and applications (e.g., SSRS, SSIS, SSMS), including authoring queries and modifying database objects.
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, and others to create compelling, insight-driven dashboards.
- Exposure to data analytics platforms (e.g., Alteryx, Azure Synapse) for ingestion, modeling, and transformation. Understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines in a data development context.
Healthcare and Domain Knowledge:

Familiarity with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems, particularly MEDITECH Expanse.

Awareness of Canadian healthcare datasets such as CIHI’s DAD, NACRS, NRS, CCRS, and other sector data (e.g., Wait Times, MOH, Telehealth).

Duties and Responsibilities:

Design, develop, and maintain robust data pipelines to ingest, transform, and stage datasets from internal and external sources (e.g., MEDITECH Expanse, iPort, Telehealth, MOH, CIHI, Statistics Canada) into Microsoft Fabric using Medallion Architecture.

Build and enhance existing semantic models by revisiting and re-engineering dimension and fact tables

Perform complex single and multi-data source queries using SQL, Python (PySpark), and/or R to extract and validate data for internal/external information requests, data quality assurance, and project-specific initiatives.

Validate data from data sources (relational database, flat-file, API etc) into data pipelines

Implement and adhere to DevOps and CI/CD practices to ensure efficient, iterative development and deployment of data solutions in a collaborative, AGILE/Scrum environment.

Build and enhance CGMH’s Semantic models (dimensions and facts) after consulting with data team members and related business SMEs.

Develop documentation for data engineering artifacts and/or data flows

Troubleshoot/audit/verify data quality and interface accuracy.
