About the role

Commissionaires is a not-for-profit provider of security services that operates across the nation. There are now 15 divisions representing all the provinces of Canada and three territories. Commissionaires Southern Alberta is responsible for providing professional security services for Calgary, Red Deer, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, and Suffield. We have protected people and property for public and private sector clients from coast to coast for more than 90 years.

We are continually hiring responsible team members who wish to contribute to the security and well-being of Canadians. The Commissionaires’ team is comprised of former military, police, and others of all ages. Our employees work in a variety of roles such as General Security, Alarm Response, Concierge and Support to Law Enforcement, and Support to Government.

As part of our ever-expanding work force, we are looking for a security professional with Canadian Airport experience, preferably YYC. The successful candidate must hold a current Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC), and Airside Vehicle Operators Permit (D) (DAVOP), or be willing and qualified to obtain such.

Position Summary

The candidate is responsible for patrolling the airfield perimeters to ensure fence (Primary Security Line) integrity, inspect and secure gates, conduct frequent patrols of critical infrastructure areas, and report any suspicious activity to the Security Operations Centre (SOC).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Patrol airfield perimeter and ensuring integrity of fence and report any deficiencies.

  • Detect, deter, and respond to any unauthorized entry in restricted and critical areas.

  • Inspect and confirm that all gates are secured.

  • Conduct frequent patrols of all airside’s critical infrastructure areas.

  • Observe any persons acting suspicious or demonstrating unusual behavior and resolve if possible; report suspicious activity / behavior to Operations Centre

Skills, Abilities & Educational Requirements:

  • Must hold a D or DA AVOP with night endorsement in good standing.

  • Must hold a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Must always hold and maintain a Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC) for the duration of the Contract.

  • Must possess a Valid AB Security License

  • Must hold an Emergency or Standard First Aid certificate.

  • Must hold a Class 5 (non-GDL) Driver’s License.

  • Must provide a current drivers abstract with no more than 2 demerits.

  • Personnel are expected to be physically able to perform the job assigned to them.

  • Maintain a high level of radio proficiency.

  • Required to be able to communicate effectively in written and spoken English, additional languages are considered an asset.

  • Formal education sufficient for effective communication, including reading, writing and comprehension and effective decision making as required by the position.

  • Clear and concise radio communication skills, must hold a current Restricted Operators Certificate – Aviation (ROC-A)

Working Conditions:

  • Work 12-hour shifts, Days and Nights.

  • May be exposed to prolonged periods of walking, sitting, or standing.

  • May be employed indoors or outdoors in periods of inclement weather.
