About the Role
FICS (Facilitated Improvement for Corporate Success) is looking for a dynamic and experienced Interim Director of International Development to lead impactful International Development initiatives across Ethiopia, Malawi, and Tanzania with our client, Canadian Physicians for Aid and Relief (CPAR) with a strong focus on health systems, gender equality, SRHR, WASH, and climate resilience.
You’ll work closely with our Canadian and African teams to guide program delivery, strengthen donor relationships, and drive resource development. This is a maternity leave coverage role with a salary range of $75,000–$80,000 CAD annually. Occasional travel within Canada may be required.

What You’ll Do
- Lead and support international development programs, ensuring alignment with CPAR’s mission and donor expectations
- Provide project oversight and support for CPAR’s work in Ethiopia, Malawi and Tanzania, implementing effective project management tools and processes, and collaboratively monitoring budgets, deliverables and timelines
- Cultivate relationships and manage negotiations with donors, partners, potential funders, and other interested parties
- Lead the development of compelling grant proposals for funders such as Global Affairs Canada, WHO, UN agencies, and private foundations
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive team culture across Canadian and African offices
- Guide project planning, budgeting, and performance tracking and reporting
- Collaborate on communications that showcase CPAR’s impact
What You Bring
- 5+ years in senior international development Program or Project leadership roles, including project planning, fieldwork, project management, and supervision of staff (in person and remote).
- Proven success in both donor fundraising and securing and managing grants from institutional donors
- Experience working in Africa and on health-focused projects is a strong asset
- Expertise in Results-Based Management and donor reporting
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
Experience in the following areas would be a strong asset:
- Health system strengthening and community health
- Gender equality, SRHR, and GBV prevention
- WASH and climate-resilient development
- Rights-based approaches to development
