About the role
The Department for Communication and Visual Arts is seeking a sessional instructor to teach FIRE 2420: Wildfire Communications in the Fall 2025 semester, to be delivered online synchronously - Wednesday 6-8:50PM.
In this course students consider the core principles and practices integral to addressing, articulating, and communicating about Wildfires within British Columbia, Canada, and globally. Students explore various methods of relaying pertinent and timely information prior to, during, and within the aftermath of wildfires. By examining key theories and models, as well as the impact of innovations in media, students will consider the ethical implications for the citizen, the role of social responsibility, and recognize these frameworks outside of dominant cultural constructions as applicable to and, perhaps, dependent upon diverse cultures and communities.
QUALIFICATIONS
A master’s degree in a relevant field with a minimum of five years of operational experience in Wildfire Communications including direct incident experience, seven years of emergency management experience with a preference given to experience in Wildfire, demonstrated experience in teaching and/or training.
Or:
A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with a minimum of fifteen years operational experience including direct incident experience and experience in Wildfire Communications, fifteen years of emergency management experience with a preference given to experience in Wildfire, demonstrated experience in teaching and/or training.
